“Better than we expected”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

My wife and I spent one night in the Hotel Monaco over the weekend. When selecting the hotel we were going to stay in I did extensive research and inevitably arrived at this one. I thought the pictures that were on this sight looked good but not quite our taste, however I had heard good things about this hotel chain and we decided to give it a shot. Upon arriving the pictures just do not do it justice. This place is beautiful. The room was nice and clean with very high ceilings. The bathroom was also extremely nice and well maintained. The negative things I would say about this place is that the maid service seemed a bit poor. Upon arriving we found that there was no hand soap anywhere in the room. I called the front desk and they sent up some immediately. No big deal. However the next day when we got up to take showers we found that there were no towels to go on the floor anywhere. The shower in our room was glass and only partially closed (no door just a small glass partition to keep water from getting everywhere). The floor was tile. Most hotels provide a floor towel so you don’t slip and fall or have to walk barefoot where a thousand other people have, but there were none in our room so we made it work with a hand towel. And the final thing about the maid service that frustrated me was at approximately 0930 on the morning we were checking out a maid knocked on our door and asked when we were leaving. To her credit we hadn't placed the do not disturb sign on the door but a simple phone call would have sufficed. The shower head had pretty poor water pressure which I assume is due to an attempt at being "eco friendly" but in my opinion when you are paying luxury prices to stay somewhere a regular shower head with good water pressure is appropriate. All in all the room was very nice and clean. We had no issues what so ever with anything else. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We booked a standard room. They sent us a email 2 days prior to our stay asking if we wanted an upg...

The hotel has one of the grandest entrance I have ever seen! The rooms are generously sized even for a US hotel which tend to have large rooms. Unlike hotels in modern builds, these rooms are very airy with high ceilings and large windows.

Excellent wifi in the room (which is often hit and miss in other hotels). There is an ethernet connection in the room as well. (Free if you sign up to their loyalty program.) Also a box with USB charging points for phones and tablets.

Free coffee and tea in the lobby in the morning and a free drink in the evening. How civilized!

Room Tip: Light sleepers should ask for a room not facing the main streets or the building with an air vent on...

This was my dog Izzie's first stay in a hotel. The Monaco Baltimore, a boutique Kimpton hotel, said they were "pet-friendly" but we had no idea how friendly until we arrived. Our family and our dog were welcomed by the Monaco staff with open arms. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Turn of the century architecture and stunning furniture. Extra points to the decorator .They had complimentry wine tasting in the lobby "living room" every evening at 5:00pm and pets are invited too! They provided board games and encouraged family activities around the fireplace. We met so many wonderful people during our stay. The staff and other guests with pets were all very firendly. I saw a man come in with his dog, but had lost his leash. A hotel staff member offered to go to the pet store and buy another and did not charge the guest! THIS IS WHAT SERVICE IS ALL ABOUT!! I highly reccommend the Monaco to all families with or without a pet.

Room Tip: ask for a room far from the elevators and ice machines, higher floors have fewer pets.

As always, the Kimpton brand delivers! In the old B&O railroad HQ's, the large marble staircase and high ceilings are lovely. Service is always first-rate, although our room was not immediately ready at 4pm. We enjoyed the nice waiting area with fireplace and comfy furniture. The wine reception was here as well, with plenty of seating room. Our Mediterranean Suite was spacious although the decor not as elaborate as some other Kimpton hotels. We did not appreciate the spot on our couch, but the rest of the room was fresh and clean. Late-night Room Service dining was not the best. (timeliness, quality, presentation)

Room Tip: Remember you are in the city...ask for a quiet room! If you see a Groupon deal, snatch it!

I walked into the Hotel Monaco Baltimore, and the beauty of it, wow! I loved the main lobby with the huge gas fireplace. I promptly had coffee there in the morning, and it was lovely. The room was Mediterranean suite. Ive never stayed in such a unique room. The bathroom will astonish you, marble and tile, deep tub, very tall ceilings throughout. Staff is top notch as well.

First off we arrived during the wine reception, they were serving a Delian white and red wine and horsdeurves were a delightful pork belly tidbit.

The fire was roaring and setting was nice and cozy!

We were referred to Mick O'Sheas for dinner. It was so yummy and they know how to pour Guinness! I had the shepherds pie and husband had the chicken sandwich. Sounds simple--it was and cheap and awesome!!

Back at hotel I requested a blanket and Kristina shows up w a raid the bar coupon an fresh hand made soap!! Really!

They were amazing since the night before we had miserable attempt at non service at the Doubletree in Richmond. Horrible and this totally made up for it.

Thank you to everyone for a great nights sleep away!

The grand entrance to the former B&O RR HQ sets a high bar for other features at this hotel. The guest rooms and staff maintain that high standard. The location is convenient to the Inner Harbor. The on site restaurant was quiet and featured an imaginative menu that was well executed.

The staff was very welcoming to our -- I have to say it -- adorable miniature schnauzer.
