“Stay someplace else”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

Nightmare started at check in. We were running late for a meeting but was assured we could be checked in quickly. After multiple attempts at making the key card for room work we were transferred to another floor. The building and rooms are very nice and the staff is as well however the room was dirty and dusty. Lobby restroom was a train wreck. No toilet paper in either stall. Stopped up toilets. Trash all over bathroom floors! Disgustingly dirty. Front desk could not provide change for a $5.00 bill so I could tip. Had to go elsewhere. And the list goes on and on and on. Again a beautiful hotel and very nice rooms just dirty. Great location. Lot of potential. Needs a good GM and all will be fine. I've stayed at cleaner motels on side of highway for $49.00 per night. The staff however is very very nice and they try hard. No complaints on staff whatsoever. They are doing the best they can without proper guidance.

From the moment we stepped out of our car in front of the hotel the staff and front desk made us feel welcome. Our room was amazing and spotless and even though it rained at the game we still had a wonderful time in Baltimore. The B&O restaurant was yummy even at 11PM after the game.I would stay here again and again!!!!!!

We were there Thurs - Sun over Labor Day weekend for the Grand Prix of Baltimore races. We stayed at the Hotel Monaco last year for the same event and were totally impressed with the hotel and the staff. This year, not so much with the staff, especially with the valets and housekeeping. The hotel is as beautiful as last year, although our room was starting to show signs of wear. The rooms are very comfortable and the beds do provide a great night's sleep. Unfortunately, the level of service during our stay was definitely sub-par for a hotel of this caliber.

When we arrived at our room Thursday around dinner time, we found no TP and called the front desk. We went ahead and left for dinner. Upon our return around 10:30pm, there was still no TP. We called the front desk again and a fellow delivered it, but never an "I'm sorry" or anything like that.

Last year, each evening the bed was turned down and nice chocolates were left for us (yum!). When this didn't happen Thursday night, we read in the hotel guide that the turn down service now has to be requested. Friday morning, we requested turn down service for the remainder of our stay at the front desk. It never happened throughout our stay.

The dirty wine glass from Thursday evening's reception, along with the glassware we used during our stay remained in the room throughout our stay. Toiletries were not refreshed throughout the stay.

Saturday evening, we called the front desk to have our car ready to go out in 20 minutes. When we arrived at the front door, our car was not there and they had not sent anyone to get it. We were in a rush and had to wait an extra 5 minutes for the car. My husband complained to the valets and all they did was blame the front desk for not calling down (see next comment). No apology, very uncaring, poor customer service.

We left on Sunday morning. About 15 minutes before we were ready to leave the room, we called the front desk for assistance with our bags. After waiting 15 mins, I left my husband in the room and went downstairs to check out, assuming assistance for the bags would be there any minute. I checked out and after another 10 minutes passed, called my husband to see what was going on. No one had come to assist him, so he ended up dragging all of our luggage from our room, down the hall to the elevator, to meet me in the lobby. Fortunately there was an empty luggage cart that I was able to grab and use to get the bags from the elevator to the car.

While at the front desk checking out, I asked for our car to be retrieved. The request was radioed to the valets while I stood there. When I arrived downstairs 5 minutes later, no one had gone for my car yet (although there were several valets standing around chatting). They claimed (again) that the front desk had never called them. This time I knew it was not true!

Last year, every time we entered and exited the hotel, the staff greeted us warmly, wished us a good day or evening and opened the hotel doors for us. We were on a first name basis with the valet who helped us with our bags upon checkin, and had a pleasant conversation with him each day we were there. This year, the men at the door couldn't even be bothered to greet us, let alone open the door. They were too busy chatting amongst themselves most of the time.

We are still awaiting a credit for a mini-bar charge that we did not incur. I called a week ago and was told a credit would be issued. I called again yesterday and was told again that it would be taken care of, but no credit has come through yet.

We could have overlooked the housekeeping issues, the lack of turndown service and less than friendly staff at the front door (and did overlook all of these issues since we didn't complain while we were there), but the incident with the car on Saturday night and checking out on Sunday were unacceptable. We were in a rush on both occasions and the problems we encountered only caused us unnecessary stress. Since these both happened right before we left, we did not have an opportunity to complain to management before we checked out. I did, however, provide this same feedback to the hotel via their survey.

It sounds like others have had a much better experience, so maybe ours was unique - for the hotel's sake, I hope so. We most likely will not be staying there again.

Centrally located within walking distance from the museums and ball park, harbour and restaurants. Wandering a few blocks to the west is not advised! Staff sparse but helpful. Did use any facilities so cannot comment on dining or gym facilities.

We used the Hotel Monaco for our hotel block for our wedding at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The hotel was so beautiful for pictures and the staff was so accommodating to all of our guests. They pampered the groom and I, as well as making sure that our stay was as flawless as possible. I loved staying here and can't wait to do so again the next time we are in Baltimore!

This hotel is charming! The rooms are fabulous and the rewards program is great. I enjoy eating at the B&O, the food is artistic and very tastey and they use local fresh ingredients. The drinks are yummy too. Service is great and hotel is welcoming and comfortable.
I highly reccomend this hotel and restaurant for locals and out-of-towners.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a shower and not a tub so ask for a room with a tub if you prefer to soak.

I couldn't be happier with my experience at the Monaco. We arrived before check-in with out 2 dogs. Our room wasn't quite ready yet, so we took the dogs out for a walk, and when we returned right at check-in time, the room was ready. The staff was very apologetic about our room not being ready when we arrived early and provided us with free drinks at the bar.

The building and lobby are beautiful. The room itself was quite nice--large, clean, and well-decorated. There was a big pet bed and 2 bowls for food and water waiting for us. There was also a dog run nearby, which helped. The staff was extremely friendly both to me and my two dogs. Checkout was a breeze and the valet parking was quick and efficient. This is the place to stay if you're looking for a hotel in downtown Baltimore.
