“Beautiful building”
Reviewed December 22, 2011

This historical building is the most beautiful hotel in downtown Baltimore. It's walking distance to the Waterfront and the acquarium. Complimentary happy hour in a gorgeous area of the hotel with a beautiful large fireplace. There is a large tv where kids or adults can play video games....it's not loud at all....because there are different sitting areas. Restaurant was very nice for breakfast.

I love my Kimpton Hotels especially Ink48 in NYC so i was really looking forward to staying at the Hotel Monaco in Baltimore for 5 days. I was sorely disappointed. The hotel lacks the warmth and welcoming environment of the other Kimptons I have visited. The building is beautiful but the staff needs an updated motivational training session or two! Perhaps it has something to do with not having to go through the lobby when coming or going from the hotel due to the design of the building.

But the final straw came on my last morning. I was leaving early to catch a train and it was dark and raining. The doorman outside called me a town car instead of a cab. Two nights before i had the same experience and when i questioned the doorman, he assured me it was the same as a cab.I found that the driver did not know how to get to the convention center three blocks away and it cost me 2x as much as it should have! So when I balked he said it would be difficult to get another ride quickly. Reluctantly I took the town car which, yes, cost 2x the taxi cost. URRRGG! I am usually a pretty laid back kind of person but this was NOT the kind of experience I expect of Kimpton Hotels. Since the doormen are the employees you encounter most often at this hotel it would help if they were more service oriented. So sorry.....

Our room was large, clean and comfortable. The location is close enough to the Inner Harbor so we could walk to all it's shops and resturants, but not on top of it. The staff was very attentive, courteous and helpful. The restored building is magnificent, prettier than the photos. We had a terrific stay. Valet parking was easy but $$36 for overnight...take a cab.

Room Tip: Corner room was large with lots of light.

We stayed here for two nights during a family wedding. The property is beautifully restored. The evening wine reception is comfortable and generous. The standard room is quite large and comfortable. We had a room service breakfast/brunch which was delivered quickly and was quite good. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Great location/base for walking around Baltimore.

It's a newer hotel and service is slow and disorganized. A half hour to get a bottle opener? Twenty minutes to check in with no other customers? The staff should spend the night at the Four Seasons to see how to run a hotel.

Dear Facchino,

I apologize to read about your recent visit and the length of time it took for what seems to be standard services. I will definitely address our inefficiency with the staff so we do not fail you twice!

They always do it right. Good price, good location, good staff. wish they had these everywhere. It is hip yet not too young, something I like but without the 20 somethings. Beds were great
