No one can tell you what artwork is good or bad -- it is subjective -- however, you would be amiss in not visiting AVAM and taking the time to fully explore the wide variety of unique works housed in this truly original museum.

“Fun and different museum”
Reviewed July 13, 2005

Unusual and funky little museum of works done by self trained artists. Lots of fun art, some made from found items, some from more traditional materials. Must see, especially the small mechanical works, but all of it was great.

“Terrible Exibits”
Reviewed August 29, 2004

I recently visited the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, Md. I was very disappointed with the exibits.

For the most part it was of poor quality and very amateurish, and akin to something a very young child might do.
I hope this is not paid for with tax money.
The administrators should know better.

“Little Gem”
Reviewed April 19, 2004

This little Museum is a must see. Their exhibits ranged from robots made of junk, a painting of Jack Kovorkian as the grim reaper, a ship model, Grandma Moses, a history of prominent African Americans, and the incredibly poignant collection of pictures done by a Holocoust survivor, complete with journal entries. The building itself is beautiful. The artists are not formally trained, but all worth seeing.

“A great experience”
Reviewed July 30, 2003

This museum is a must see. It is an extroadinary collection. The biographies that accompany the artwork add to the collection.
Beautifully designed museum with a great cafe. Plan on spending at least 1/2 a day. Teenagers would enjoy the musuem but our under 10's were not as interested. There is basketball court next door where they hung out.
