Owner description: Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

I don't know how helpful this will be, because we never stepped foot inside the building. Baltimore's tourism site, though, recommended the outside as one of the top free sights in the city. It is! If you like the strange, thought-provoking or just straight up odd... This is for you.

Although a little expensive the exhibits were unique and fun for all ages. There was a fabulous exhibit of creations made from match sticks (backgammon set, statues), some weird electronics and in the basement a history of farts. My wife and I spent two and a half hours there. You will not see anything else like it anywhere. And it is serviced by the free bus.

This museum is a must-see if you have an open mind and enjoy wit and irony. The variety of media, subject, genre, and weirdness will amaze you. This art is truly visionary.

Even for those of you who think art museums are boring, think again. I would have never expected to see such cool interpretations of the modern society throughout the halls of this place. I recommend.

The AVAM is always interesting. The artists are usually not formally trained and often "mentally challenged." Their art works are thought-provoking & sometimes funny. Execution can be down-right splendid,as in great technique, self-taught genius. The latest exhibition was international in scope and focused on the human connection-or not to technology. The Fun Restaurant is awesome in food offerings & in service.
