“Amazing Creativity on Exhibit (Blue Star Museum for you Military Folk)”

This museum cooperates in the Blue Star program - free or reduced prices for military w/ID. Go, go, go. From the cafe on the 3rd floor, to the fart exhibit in the basement, this museum definitely has something for all. Not sure where you are supposed to park - we parked on the street and feed the meter - easy peasy. Be sure to hit the gift shop as well as push the buttons on the moving displays. We had the privilege of meeting one of the artists - as he was visiting his installation...frosting on an excellent museum cake.

“Cool and funny”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

Worth a visit for sure... Nice exhibitions, funny and cool stuff. Very visionary and not recommendable to very classic people. A fee is required... Three buildings displaying heterogenous visionary art from fart machines to exquisite stuff.

“You Need to See this Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

The American Visionary Art Museum in the Federal Hill section of Baltimore was amazing. It is a museum for artists without formal training and they are often obsessives or complete nut jobs. It is not like a museum you have been to before and it is a lot of fun. There was one powerful exhibit that was a series of embroidered panel by Esther Niesenthal Krinitz, describing her life and survival as a Polish jew during World War II. There was art made of toothpicks and others of matchsticks and a series of sculptures using only telephone wire. It goes on and on and is spectacular. There was one series of wonderful drawings where the note about the artist said that most of his work was thrown away each day as part of the policy of the insane asylum he was in. In some ways, the stories about the artist was as amazing as the art they created. The gift shop is really fun too and the restaurant looked very cool. This place is definitely worth a detour if you are even near Baltimore.

“So cool”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

This place is unlike any other museum I've been to. the art is unusual, personal and the information re. the pieces is wonderful in helping you to appreciate and understand it. It's quirky, to say the least, but really always touches our hearts.

“On my top ten of museums”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

Wow! What an amazing museum. It's on my top ten for sure. And the giftshop was incredible. The descriptions of the work were so personal and well written. Each piece of art was so individual and the multiple buildings and outside garden made for a long visit. Give yourself a few hours.
