Owner description: Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

We were "wowed" by the collection, moved by its unexpectedly emotional and beautiful quality. Be sure to dine at Mr. Rain's Fun House -- is is open after the museum closes -- it was our best dining experience in Baltimore!

Absolutely amazing place - full to the rafters with interesting, inventive, quirky art works. Not to be missed by any fan of art or the unusual ! Superb gift shop ! No photography allowed which was a bit mean ! Thoroughly worth a visit !

My daughters and I visited this museum. The main building (where you pay and the gift shop is) that we visited I thought would be not appropriate for younger children. Their air conditioner was broken which made things worse. While there were some interesting exhibits in that building most of it was sort of strange and bizarre and some things in questionable taste. I would give that part of the museum no more than 2 stars out of 5. Smaller kids would not understand the exhibits and art work.

The second building was really fun. Had minature small exhibits that you could activate with a switch which were really cool. Had some robot exhibits and the whole first floor was fun. Had some hanging exhibits and other exhibits that the whole family would enjoy.

The gift shop in the main building was fun and had a lot of interesting items that were fairly cheap and unsual.

Overall interesting place but don't understand why it has a such a high rating by Trip Advisor reviewers.

This museum is unlike any I've ever visited before. The artists work in unique mediums as well as the more mundane oils and water colors. What I found very interesting were the commentaries that accompanied the pieces which gave an insight into the life of the artist and what influenced his work. the museum is easily accessible by foot from the Inner Harbor walkways or the Water Taxi stop of the Rusty Scupper.

The AVAM is the first thing I always recommend to people visiting Baltimore. It's a truly unique, beautifully presented museum. I lived in Baltimore for 4 years and AVAM represents many of the things I love about Baltimore- true character and talent that you can't find in bigger, more mainstream cities.
