Owner description: Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

This is a return visit. The museum is always a great experience. Exhibits were unique and enjoyable. Make sure you go to see other exhibits in the auxiliary buildings. You will not be disappointed.

This is a very creative appealing museum. Exhibts are mesmorizing. I've never seen a museum like it. It deserves more than a couple of hours to view. I think you will find it well worth your time.

Wasn't sure what to expect when visiting AVAM and was pleasantly surprised at all the very cool pieces that were there. All self-taught artists, some of them with mental issues... but we all know that sometimes genius comes from those with tortured minds. I really enjoyed the tall wood carved statue on the first floor of the mental patient who carved his likeness in a single piece of applewood. Very haunting. And then there's the bra ball made of 18,000 bras. Would definitely go again!

Not your average art museum, but well worth checking out. 3 floors of non traditional art. often have interesting temporary exhibit. decent restaurant on top floor and fun gift shop is great place for unusual gifts. worth looking at the outdoor sculptures as well.

We enjoy the AVAM--the exhibits are certainly unique. Lots of folk art, and, let's say, "unusually creative" artists. But it is expensive, so, if your tastes run to mainstream art, you might be disappointed given the entrance fee.
