“Fantastic stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2011

The service provided was very good. The receptionists were very friendly and provided much advice. There were volunteers working there too.

The room we stayed in was the double private room. It was well furnished, the bed was luxurious for the amount we paid (USD $74). The toilet was clean, spacious and well kept. The living room and dining areas were also well furnished, cosy with plenty of sofas. We paid $3/person for all you can eat pizza. It was a fun session as we made our own pizza with the ingredients provided. Breakfast was free, we made our own pancakes.

The location is good. it's right in the middle of downtown.

Overall, this place is fantastic and super comfortable and affordable. Almost like a hotel.

HI Baltimore occupies a historic brownstone in a very chic area of Baltimore. Stayed in a six-bed dorm the evening before a cruise departure, and had very positive interactions with both staff and other hostelers.

Location is really quite impressive, located a block away from North Charles Street. Heading North, there's easy access to Walters Art Museum, trendy restaurants, and the gay district; heading South, easy access to more restaurants, downtown and the Inner Harbor.

The hostel is clean and comfortable. Do-it-yourself pancakes and coffee in the morning is a great touch, and really brings the guests together.

There are plenty of lockers in and outside of the bedrooms, and in the basement. I found that by keeping my stuff in a hallway locker, I had much easier access to it than fumbling in the dark and trying to be quiet in the early hours of the morning.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. There's a bring-your-own-candleabra grand piano in the main room.

After ten years of carting by backpack all over Australia, Europe, Asia and North America I have to say this is the best hostel I've ever stayed in.

From the moment I stepped through the door I was made to feel welcome and at home. The hostel is in a beautiful old building, very clean and full of character. The staff were friendly, polite, and generally wonderful people.

The place was beautiful decorated, comfortable furniture, great beds, lots of good local information lying around the place, guests from all different walks of life.

A beautiful and wonderful home away from home. All hostels should be like this.

We were blown away with how great this hostel is.
The location is great, right near Mount Vernon. We walked there from the train station. There are tons of great places to eat nearby, and many of them offer deals for guests of the hostel. It's also close to the University of Baltimore, so there were lots of people my age at the local pubs.
The staff were fantastic. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and laid-back.
The private room had a code lock. We felt that our belongings were very safe while we were gone. The room was small and dark because it was in the basement, but it was comfortable. All we wanted was a place to sleep, and it we slept well (except for when the person in the private room next to ours would slam his door at 6am). There was a double bed, a shelf, a side table and a chair. We had internet in our room, although it wasn't perfect, but you could go to the living room and it was fine.
The building is a beautiful period rowhouse. The living room is spacious and light, and the downstairs TV room is comfortable. They had a ton of movies and computers to use.
A make-your-own pancake breakfast was included and we took advantage of it. There was lots of room in the fridges for guests to use.
We had a bathroom that we shared with the other private room, which was nice and clean. The shower was not perfect, but I appreciated not having to share with 10 or more people.
The number one thing we loved about this hostel is that from 11pm-8am there are quiet hours, and people adhered to them. As I said, the point is we only needed a place to sleep, and this place went above and beyond that. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed 3 nights here and it was a good time. rates were very good and if you don't mind hostel style living- shared bunks, and bathroom, kitchen then this is the place. The hostel is in an old well maintained and pleasing building near Mount Vernon. I really liked the atmosphere and kind staff. There was a concert there one night and movies the next. Also in the basement is internet and tv. Lockers were available in the room. Bathrooms and whole place were super clean. It didn't seem like a hostel because it is quite small and cozy. If you don't mind the sharing of space and facilities it is a good alternative to pricey hotels. To the waterfront maybe 10 min walk.

I spent 4 nights at the Baltimore youth hostel, and have no complaints.....well.....I got 2 spider bites, and saw a large spider in my room, but that's not likely anything they could prevent and there didn't seem to be an infestations, since I only SAW one (and no webs).

The hostel is in a lovely historic building directly across the street from the country's oldes Cathedral, and a huge library. It's on a bus line, and a few blocks (maybe half a mile) away from a lite rail/subway. It's also just under half a mile away from some hoppin' nightclubs (One, Bourbon Street, Sonar) and there's a nice Irish Pub in stumbeling distance (Mick O'Sheas). The location was actually walking distance to pretty much everything a tourist would want to see (Aquarium, Marina, Science Center, monuments, etc.).

The hostel itself offered daily pancakes (w/chocolate chips even!) you could make yourself, a wonderful kitchen, free internet, a nice little patio, a large living room with free books, a dining room with plenty of tables, laundry ($1.50 Wash or dry) room, and a basement tv/game room with a kareoke machine and plethora of VHS movies.....pretty cool!
The staff all seemed nice, and there was good security. Lock codes were used for the main door, and each dorm room. There were also lockable lockers (BYO Lock). The hostel offered free ear plugs, and had flashlights, hairdryers, etc., that guests could borrow. No lock out or curfew. Alcohol was forbidden, but there was a pop machine and plenty of fridge space.

The dorms had window airconditioners and fairly comfy plastic covered mattresses on wooden bunk beds. Considering the age (very old building) the cleanliness was quite fine.

I would stay again.
