“Good Italian in Hamden”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

Charming setting in an old row home...very European feel to the venue. Creative menu....The Veal was offered in a variety of ways. Several choices of freshly made pasta...all good.Good Caesar Salad as well as white Anchovies as an appetizer option.

“A wonderful restaurant to eat at”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

A small locally run restaurant in Hamden housed in a town house, this is a wonderful place to come for dinner or lunch. The menu is varied and everything is delicious. The portions are generous and expertly prepared and all the pastas are made to order. With an emphasis on Italian cuisine, the kitchen prepares a group of terrific dishes and any of the pastas are highly recommended.

Because the restaurant in small, all of the wait staff is both attentive and alert to their customers, no mean feat in this day of fast food chains. This friends is no ITALIAN GARDENS rather it is a delightful place to spend a few hours with a group or a date. One can dress
casually or not, it is left up to the individual. Just come prepared to eat.
The wine list is excellent and fairly priced and I recommend this restaurant to anyone who comes from out of town.

Finally, the bill will not leave one numb with shock, since the prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food and the service.

“Little Grano vs. Big Grano”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

There are two Grano restaurants, and both are wonderful. Big Grano (on Chestnut) is a traditonal table-service restaurant, casual, but nice -- a perfect date place. You'll need a reservation well in advance, and may have to wait for a table when you arrive, people tend to linger. The food is delicious and the service is great. As the name implys, pasta is the star here, but everything on the menu is terrific. The building is always being reconfigured -- they rconstantly need more space for their increasingly loyal clientelle. Last it visited, the bar was a nice little get-away for a quiet drink.
Little Grano (on the avenue) has the same stellar cooking, in a much less traditional setting. the building used to be some sort of carry-out counter (pizza, chinese, whatever) and is still equipped with a big open kitchen area surrounded by a high counter. There are about four tables (more when outdoor seating is available), and they are always full. ORDER THE CARBONARA. It is unbelievably rich, and you can feel the fat puddling in your arteries, but you know that it's worth it. Little Grano is BYOB, so it's great for a funky low-cost evening.

“Great little place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2012

Had lunch at Grano today. It's tiny, a couple of 2-tops and a couple of high tables; also a diner-like counter with stools. Atmosphere is a little quirky, service is great and the food is really good. I was really glad that they recycle because I didn't have to take my bottle with me as I usually have to do with other restaurants.
