“I'm Partial”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2012

It is truly an oasis within the city. I am partial because of the family connection. My paternal ancesters are buried here near the Walters family and Betsy Bonaparte. The list of dignitaries is amazing. Visit and pick up the list. It is also relatively safe considering it is in a very depressed area.

“Best cemetery in Baltimore”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012

Cemetery history and archetecture rolled into the most notable cemetery in Baltmore. Save an hour to find this place at the end of North Ave. and look at the old markers that show individuality of the era.

“Take a Friend, Take a Walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012

If you love old cemeteries, stroll this one. It's not a sea of flat grave markers, but a lively garden of old headstones. The neighborhoods surrounding the cemetery are a bit challenged, so go during the day with a friend or in the evening with a larger group.

“Could be beautiful”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2012

The location overlooking Baltimore is great. This used to be a beautiful resting place. Unfortunately the area around it is not so good and there is a lot of need for repairs.

“Many interesting stories.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2012

We went there on a tour offered by a local historian. All different shapes and size headstones and some very interesting stories about Baltimore and its citizens. The place is enourmous and some areas maybe difficult to get to for those with limited walking. We were given a map of the cemetary with the most historic and visted gravesites marked. The guy who invented the Oujia board is buried there. The cemetary closes at 4 and its recommended that you leave at 330. It is right smack in the middle of urban growth and explains its very high walls that surround the place. I wouldnt recommend parking on the outside of the cemetary, the neighborhood appeared rather rough. I would definetly ask what streets are best to take to get there because you could end up in some areas you dont want to be in especially if your visiting the city. We were there for 3 hours and barely went into some of the burial areas. You can also find many sculptures dotted around. Thank you Wayne Schaumburg for the excellent tour, we had a great time.
