“No Art Snobs here - Impressive collection & FREE!”
Reviewed June 12, 2011

Added this to our ‘must do'’ list during our recent visit to Baltimore after seeing all the Tripadvisor reviews. It was close to the Basilica so planned both visits together. Glad we did - discovered a True gem of a museum. Staff was extremely helpful and offered lots of choice tips. The wonderfully displayed exhibits made each room unique. Impressive collections are vast and varied – modern art, mummies, old masters’ classic paintings, impressionists, sculptures, tapestry……We especially enjoyed the Fabergé' eggs and the medieval armor and weaponry. Easy to find something for all to enjoy and appreciate art here. Do not overlook the building architecture and history. This museum does not overwhelm in size but in quality. Plan at least 2 hours but can easily spend more. Free admission AND Free Audio tour highlighting the best of the best – great find.

“Wonderful FREE museum in downtown Baltimore”
Reviewed May 31, 2011

We were looking for something different to do in Baltimore on Memorial Day weekend and we found this museum reviewed by other Trip Advisor members. It sounded great for the price (FREE) and so we went. It is a marvelous museum containing the personal collections of several generations of a wealthy family from Baltimore and it is compact and beautifully housed. If you have a couple of hours, you can see a lot and you can spend an entire day here if you have that much time. In the last year I have been to the Met in New York and the MFA in Boston, and while both are world class, they are somewhat overwhelming. You have to decide where to concentrate your visit, while with this museum you can pretty much see the whole thing in a day and come away having sampled art throughout world history. To get there from our hotel, by the way, we took the Charm City Circulator, which is a FREE bus service for parts of Baltimore. It was great and I would recommend it to visitors who want to dispense with their car and don't want to walk all the time. It was wonderful.

“FREE and FANTASTIC”
Reviewed January 2, 2011

More than an art museum, the Walters is (partially) housed in vintage buildings that are an attraction in themselves. The museum has diverse collections reflecting the wide interests of the Walters' interests. For example, the current exhibits include German drawings (fantastically detailed), examples of beasts on parchment from medieval books, medieval books with illustrations and perhaps twenty other categories in their regular art work.

“What all museums would like to be”
Reviewed September 26, 2010

Walters Art Museum
We were in Baltimore for a few days and I tried to budget my free time to see what I could based on the reviews I’d read before we went. My mistake was not allowing myself as much time as this outstanding museum deserves. First be aware that it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Admission is free. They have the best audio tour I’ve had the pleasure of using, also free. The presentation of the art work was excellent, the buildings impressive and the staff both friendly and helpful. This museum is done up the way others would like to be if they had the funds. If you enjoy art museums than you should love your visit here as much as I did, but allow yourself plenty of time. When I get back to Baltimore this museum will be at the top of my list of things to do.

“Impressive collection”
Reviewed September 7, 2010

The Walters is free and the collection is a level above the usual museum of its kind. It's obvious a lot of though went into the acquisitions and the facility is very nice.
