The building is a huge square about 4 stories high and the center is completely open as if the core was removed. In the center is a gigantic jungle gym, reaching almost 4 stories high. This is great for big kids, tot's won't manage it and little kids will have a hard time neither should be in it alone because they can exit the structure at any level and you will be hard pressed to keep up if you're not in it with them. There are also many platform levels where they'd pass children and/or adults alone. Jungle gym (IMO) is for 11 and up (to be safe).

The outer zones are suited for tot's and young children 7 and under. There is a great water table and sand table, circle time (in the library of sorts) is scheduled and excellent. However, it's unstaffed at other times and children should not be in there alone. There is a secluded nursing cubby room in there as well for moms. Try to hook up with scheduled events.

I found that the center works for big kids only and the outer area for small kids only. I found the staff to be unenthusiastic and not easy to find outside of enclosed rooms. There is a locker area and picnic area where you can purchase vending machine drinks and snacks but you can't buy lunch inside so bring it with you if the kids will be hungry.

Thank you for your review. In regards to our KidWorks exhibit, the area is recommended for ages 5 and up. Parents are welcome to explore the exhibit with their children but we also have Guest Services staff members on each floor. For more information on how to be safe on KidWorks, please visit http://www.portdiscovery.org/uploads/File/How_to_be_safe_on_Kidworks.ppt .

As far as our Oasis exhibit, the area has scheduled activities for Toddlers and parents each day but like all of our other exhibits, it is also staffed by museum staff.

Our museum staff is full of energetic, attentive individuals who are trained to put the safety and experience of each guest first. If you have any specific concerns that you would like to address, please contact our Guest Services manager Magan Ruthke at mruthke@portdiscovery.org.

While we do not offer food on site, we have a list of area restaurants on our site (http://www.portdiscovery.org/generalinfo/faq) and welcome guests to bring lunches eat in our Pier on the first floor.

Thanks again for visiting and sharing your experience!

I still remember going here with my parents when I was a little girl. I am planning on taking my brother sometime soon! I love this place, there is sooo much for children to do here. Great place. Not to pricey either.

We visited Port discovery in February 2013 during a weekday ( to avoid the busy times) and we all had a blast! My 2 year old, my husband and I and my mother in law. There is lots to do. We ended up getting a membership on the way out, the purchase of your admission gets taken off of a membership at the end.

They have a 3 and under area which is great to get away from the bigger kids that can run over little kids. They have an art room and constantly have different themes. An egypt exhibit as well. I thought it was all very well thought out I really enjoy the inner harbour and wish more people got over the fear of baltimore. It's lovely at the harbour, the rest of the city sucks but the harbour is worth it.

Everyone who comes to visit the DC area is afraid to visit Baltimore...an they are missing out. DC museums, while filled with wonderful artifacts and informative exhibits, are rather boring for kids. I have four boys and they love going to the inner harbor. Port Discovery, the Maryland Science Center and the Aquarium are wonderfully delightful and fun-filled adventures for all ages. Then hop over to Little Italy or Fells Point for some food and Pitangos...perfect day.
