This is a charming OLD hotel with a very friendly, helpful staff. We understood it is under new ownership and a significant amount has been invested in the restaurant and a new bar area; all to the good. However, though some aspects of the decor are charming, others require modernizing. For example, the bathroom fittings and fixtures in our room reminded us something out of tract housing in the'50s. Some of the furniture has moved from classic to just old. Perhaps the new owners are addressing the rooms next.
The Limpia is well located for visiting old Ft. Davis and the MacDonald Observatory.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Hotel Limpia. We are sorry that you found the bathroom and furnishings in your room less than ideal. We are, as you noted, renovating the hotel as quickly as possible. We do have a few rooms that still need bathroom re-dos in the "West" building accross the street from the main hotel. These rooms are significantly less expensive than fully renovated rooms. The vast majority of our rooms have lovely, period style bathrooms that have been renovated. I hope that you will visit us again in the future and have a better experience. We do appreciate your positive comments about the work that has been done as well as our oustanding staff!

My wife and I loved the hotel and the Blue Mountain Bistro. Most of all, we enjoyed the super friendly and super helpful staff. The meals and service were great in the Blue Mountain. The Fort Davis / Alpine / Marfa area of West Texas is beautiful, chock full of western history and is great weekend getaway.

Room Tip: We had a one bedroom suite in section separate from the main hotel building. These rooms seem to be...

This was my first stay at the Hotel Limpia, though family members have been customers for years. Good things: Large, comfortable rooms; great location; excellent staff; charming garden; lots of rocking chairs. Not-so-good: The pool could use some updating and more comfortable seating. Our room was right across from the front desk, and there was loud talking one morning at 6:30 AM that woke us up! When the hotel is fully booked, the traffic down the side road can be noisy and non-stop. Just try to avoid booking during a nearby convention (there was one going on during our stay) so that you have more quiet. The woman who runs the cafe/bar in the mornings is a real gem! Couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. One last tip: Be sure to go to a "Star Party" at McDonald Observatory (every Tuesday and Friday night). It was a highlight of our trip!

Room Tip: Don't stay on the ground floor of the main building. Too noisy!

I've been leading a Harley ride to the Big Bend area since 1997 and we have always stayed at the Hotel Limpia in Ft Davis Texas and visited the University oif Texas McDonald Observatory. The Hotel Limpia has always been a great place but a little short on the bar and resturant - until now! The Hotel was bought last year and the new owner has made some terrific changes. They built a new bar with a hammered copper bar and very good selection of liquors. The new bar is set with a suround or windows that look out on to the patio. The new resturant dining room is equally nice with a great decor of the Big Bend area. Staff has been increased and all are very helpful, friendly, and most all know the job well.
We ate the Pork Tenderlion the first night and the Breat of Chicken the second night - plus an excellent wine both nights all for a very reasonable cost remembering we were 430 mile sfrom Austin and there are very few resturants / bars this great for a realy long way! Then there is the PIE! Save room you will enjoy.

We started a Texas roadtrip in Fort Davis, TX, intending to visit the Fort and finish up with the Star Party at the McDonald Observatory there. We drove into Fort Davis early in the day and decided to stay at the Hotel Limpia. What a charming place! Beautifully restored and the desk personnel were very helpful and friendly. We were told to go ahead upstairs and pick out our own room! Available rooms were all open - this took awhile, because we didn't want to miss the chance to explore each unique room. And CLEAN. There is no elevator, but don't let that keep you from visiting. We sat on the second-floor balcony and drank some beers while enjoying the huge, beautiful trees and the mountains in the distance. If you want a taste of the past with the conveniences of the present, visit Hotel Limpia. And be sure to meet the "top cat," Tuxedo!

Room Tip: You get to pick your own and I can't imagine there is a "bad" choice.

If you enjoy old hotels, the Limpia is very well restored. It has a beautiful sun porch. The rooms are small, as is the original bathroom, but nicely decorated. Cute hotel. It is a historic hotel, though, so no elevator.

I would have rated it higher except that the internet connection wasn't working, and the front desk wasn't very helpful. The signal strength was high, you just couldn't access the internet except painfully slowly. Literally five minutes per page if it worked at all. The front desk response with two different people was, "Oh, mine works." One said twice, about 8 hours apart, "I need to call somebody about that." One asked if she could look something up for me.

Strangely, after the office staff left in the evening, the internet magically worked. It appears that they have some setup that allows them to use the available bandwidth, and they didn't show any surprise when I or another guest complained.

The Hotel Limpia is quaint. The rooms seem more like a bed and breakfast would have. The furnishings are all unique. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and well furnished. Be sure to meet Tuxedo, the resident cat! A great value!
