Stayed in #45 and the king bed was okay but all the bunk beds had worn down mattresses. Tile missing around the sink, wood peeling on doors, spiderwebs in the windows complete with spider.
Enjoyed the quiet, the breeze, seeing the deer and stars at night. WiFi was sketchy and we felt like second class citizens since we booked independently (not as part of a group) --- they acted like they didn't know what to do with us! No ranch activities over Memorial day w/e despite having a fair number of guests there.
My girls enjoyed the pool; I thought it could have used a little cleaning. Food from the buffet was so-so. Overall, the place looks like it's coasting on it's past reputation. I'll look for another option next time we're in the area.

I'm sorry that you were unhappy with your stay. We have new house keepers and they are working harder to make sure that everything is clean.

I was very mad when i got in to the internet page an saw the staff page i dont think is fair that you guys would leave bibi out of it. She does so much for you if it was not for her your rooms would not be as clean as they are, she worries about the rooms been clean for the guest so you should take in consideration that she does so much for you guys to be left out she is part of the staff as well DONT YOU GUYS THINK!!!!!

You must not have looked very hard because she is on the staff profile page.

This was our third Thankgiving family holiday spent as guests of the Prude Ranch. We come here for family rest and relaxation. The staff treat you as family; from the front desk, the corral staff, the cafeteria staff, and the camp staff. The cabin accommodations are very rustic...no televisions, no electronic games; little/to no cell signal...just the peace and tranquility of West Texas. The horseback riding is a favorite draw to the ranch; 1-hour rides were offered throughout the day for $30/rider. During the holiday, there are hayrides, a thankgiving buffet feast, and typically, a traditional bonfire with western entertainment and campfire marshmellows.

Nearby attractions include the McDonald Observatory, the historical Fort Davis Park Fort, the desert botanical garden, Marfa, TX and of course, Big Bend NP.

If you are looking for a rustic getaway, dude ranch, with complete relaxation under the stars of the West Texas sky; we highly recommend the Prude Ranch.

Room Tip: Cabins 42-47 are close to the corrals and main office/cafeteria; other rooms/bunkhouses offer more space and are more remote.

Every Spring Break for the last fifteen years or so, we have packed up the van and spent the week or at least part of the week at the Ranch. The Ranch has changed over the years, but the Prude family has worked very hard to retain the feeling of belonging once you get there. I hope that never changes. They are as nice to families that stay there as they are to the large groups that come in. The Prudes recently mourned the passing of their patriarch, John Robert Prude, truly a nice man and a driving force in the summer camps held there each summer.

It is rustic, which is part of its charm. There are mountains to climb, horses to ride, and many places to visit in the area like Fort Davis National Historic Monument, Alpine, Marfa, McDonald Observatory, Balmorea State Park.
