Thanks to Trip Advisor we found this place. It was wonderful.

We stayed in camp room 10. It had no a/c and screen windows and it was cool and wonderful. We used the communal bathrooms that were a short walk.

The rooms were quaint, clean, and better than expected.

Highly recommend this place!

Me and my wife lucked into this place when we were travelling through west Texas on our road trip. We stayed for two nights and could not have been more pleased. The room was incredibly clean, orderly and spacious, especially for the price. The local market was great for breakfast and there were plenty of good restaurants nearby. It was fantastic to wake up and walk outside and see mountains at your back. Definitely a must for anyone looking for an out of the way stay and be at peace.

Stayed at the Scobee Mountain house overlooking the Jeff Davis Region. Amazing view off the deck of the house. The house had a wonderful sense of privacy and within an hour of being there my husband and I started to relax. The bed was very posh, and the house has all the amenities you'd want. We soaked in our short stay and look forward to staying there again.

(Oh and don't worry about the drive up there, I made it in my Honda Fit, but I'm a good driver too :)

In all meanings of the word "cool." We stayed in camp rooms and it reminded me of sleeping on a screened-in porch as a kid. The breeze and ceiling fan were more than enough to keep us comfortable even in the middle of a summer day. The camp and the pool were super clean, beds were comfy, the atmosphere laid-back and friendly. The kids loved that there was WiFi. We plan to return as soon as possible.

When I think of all the things I like about Texas, Ft. Davis, and specifically the Stone Village Tourist Camp is at the top of the list. My wife and I live in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, but when we are ready to slow down and COOL down, we head to Stone Village. This is the fifth year we have chosen to spend vacation time at Stone Village, and we will continue to return. Randall, Belinda and their team do a fantastic job of maintaining and constantly updating this unique property. As you've read in other reviews, your stay here will feel like a relaxing trip to your best friends guest house. The hospitality is unmatched. Rooms are quiet and private, and the cool breeze on the front porch outside your room will make for the best reading experience ever. The pool is a great way to relax for young and old alike. There are several neat places to eat within walking distance, and the Stone Village Market next door is a rare find with delicious soups, sandwiches, and great snacks of all varieties. Guests of the Stone Village Tourist Camp receive free coffee every morning. We have stayed in every room configuration, single, double, suite, and camp room, and they are all updated and very well kept. You just can't beat the value and service for this price.
We can't wait to go back Labor Day!

Room Tip: Camp rooms stay much cooler than we thought due to the cool evenings.

What a nice place to stay, feeling a little like there might be a bug or two in the deserted area this little motor inn is EXCELLENT and was very clean, cleaner than other more expensive hotels I have been in. They had a nice friendly staff too. We were on a road trip to Colorado and this place was cute, clean and roomy. We stayed in room 9 I think and it had a large enough living area for all our family, pull out bed and little sitting area outside. It was close to the McDonald observatory and was well worth the price. Would stay here again.
I would not eat at the drug store though- pretty high prices...a $7 banana split says it all.
But since we saved money on the lodging I guess we should have all had one! : )

This motel was creatively remodeled from a mid-century tourist court. The interior design however was far more comfortable and my room was decorated with antique furniture and reminded me of a well-maintained B&B. Wireless internet worked reasonably well in the room. Interestingly this motel has some open-air rooms with screens and curtains instead of a front wall, and no in-room bathroom. These are semi-camping rooms and are much less expensive than the regular rooms.
