Rose River Inn
Ranked #1 of 8 Astoria B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 3, 2007

I just loved this place! From the second I arrived, I felt welcome and right at home. This restored B&B has character and charm; the Inn Keepers have really made their home a special place to stay. I had the opportunity to stay in the "inspiration" suite which was absolutely beautiful: a king size bed along with two additional beds in a separate room, large bathroom with great view of the river, a gas fireplace to make the room cozy and a sitting room. Each morning I enjoyed a delicious full breakfast (Pam is a excellent cook!!) while looking out at the river. Pam and David were knowledgeable about Astoria as well as the towns surrounding the area. Overall, this B&B was hospitable, clean, charming and allowed for a relaxing and great time!! I highly recommend the Rose River Inn.

i have stayed at a hand full of b&bs in my travel experences ,and i must say the Rose river inn was by far the most comfortable and cleanest one yet. i loved the fact that the inn keepers (Pam and David) made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.i wont babble on all day i will just say the food is great , the inn is comfortable, clean and Pam and David have a wide range of knowledge for the town and surroundings areas. they made this a fun experence for us.

This is without doubt the best bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in, and it sets the standard way above anything we expected.

The Inn Keepers were so friendly and welcoming without being overbearing. We arrived in Astoria in the early afternoon and they showed us to our room and proivided us with excellent, honest, accurate information on what there was to do in the local area, and where we could eat that evening. We were made to feel very at home.

The house was fantastic - sympathetically restored to a high standard, sophisticated, comfortable, while at the same time retaining many of the original features to give it an olde worlde charm and plenty of character. We had booked the smallest, and cheapest, room on offer as it was the only one left, but it was perfectly appointed with plenty of room for us, and the bath tub was very cool! The rooms all had TV/DVD players and there was a plethora of movies available for you to borrow while you were there. The bathroom had some lovely homemade bath treats too.

The breakfast was the icing on the cake! The food was absolutely delicious, with three thoughtfully planned tasty courses that convince you that just one more bite won't hurt! It was served in their light bright dining room and my husband and I were lucky enough to be sitting in the two seats with the best views over the river.

We had been travelling for some time when we arrived here, and were craving the anonymity of a hotel and dreading another night in a B&B. The hospitality at the Rose River Inn wiped away our weary woes the moment we walked through the door. This place is romantic, comfortable, convenient for all the sights of Astoria (truffle shuffle anyone?) and a little touch of home away from home. I'd go back to Astoria just to stay here!

Comments: I booked a room at the Rose River Inn Bed and Breakfast, reservation # 046624306. Your site has this as a 3 start with no reader comments. I found this B&B to be no more than a one star and was grossly overpriced for the following reasons:

1. Breakfast could only be served at 9AM. When asked about an earlier service as we did not want to spend the morning there, the inn keeper said she did not like to get up early and could only relunctently provide a minimal service.

2. The river view, which was advertised as being a major feature of this B&B, is very minimal and limited to only a very few areas of the house.

3. The entire house slants severely front to back and is not comfortable to sit in.

This guest booked through a company that has their own rating system, which you can view by going to that company's website. There are 3 reader comments as of June, this guest stayed 7/16. I also have no control over the additional fees that this company charges. As stated on our website, breakfast is at 9 a.m. If you request an early time, then you will be offered fresh fruit, bagels, cereal, coffee, tea and oj. Also on our website it clearly describes each room and if there is a view of the river. For the amenities we offer we feel we are more then fair on our room rates. If you would book directly with us you would understand this. If you read the reviews that other guests have written on this website, they were all pleased with their stay here. I am sorry that this guest felt that they had such a bad experience here.

We stayed at the B&B for only one night, but it was a great night. We were in the Othello room, which was of a very nice and an extremely comfortable bed. Also included was a big bathtub, robes, a tv and DVD (with an extensive movie collection). Our host and hostess were very nice and knowledgable on the area. Astoria is a neat little town just to walk around in. Breakfast was good, but served at 9am. That's tough if you want to get an early start on your way to Portland, but very good if you're a fisherperson who wants to go out on THE Columbia River to get some early bites.

We had a wonderful stay at the Rose River Inn, wonderful hosts and very nice accomodations. I highly recommend going to Fort George's which is just a block away, a great pub with great beer! Astoria is a very charming stop, I highly recommend it!

My new bride and I came up here for our honeymoon and stayed for 5 nights. Each morning we had breakfast with different people who had come in the earlier evening. Breakfast conversations were wonderful as David and Pam treated us more like friends than as guests and acted as hosts more than innkeepers.

The room (Rose Room) was a wonderful room with a lot of space, though very little storage for those that like to unpack their entire suitcase when they arrive on destination. Both my wife and I were a bit tall for the bathtub (but we're both used to that by now) but aside from that, the house is amazing clean for a place with so much history and the views are fantastic.
