I read about this Hotel in T & L magazine and thought maybe it was a little more than I wanted to spend for one night but when my daughter called to check on availability they offered us a nice discount. The Cannery Pier Hotel is a small boutique hotel ( 46 rooms) that is absolutely spectacular! Some of the wonderful amenities that we experienced are - a glass of wine at check-in, fresh-baked cookies in the lobby at 8 PM, a continental breakfast ( yummy!) in the morning, newspaper at your door. If you want a ride to dinner the hotel offers two antique Packards to take you there and pick you up. There is also a spa and exercise room available for guests.
The first thing we did upon check-in was to head out on the hotel's deck to watch a magnificent sunset. Many photos later we went to our room and were blown away. The first thing we noticed was the incredible view. The room's sitting area complete with binoculars overlooks the Columbia River. We ventured out on our balcony where we were almost under the Astoria-Megler Bridge. This bridge connects Oregon and Washington and is a work of architectural art. We watched the massive ships as they entered and exited the River.
The next spectacular element in the room was the bathroom with it's gorgeous claw foot tub. Two plush robes hung invitingly next to it. The bathroom also included a glass shower and an expansive counter top with a wonderful lighted make-up mirror. We had two comfortable queen-sized beds , a gas fireplace and anything else you could possibly need. The staff was wonderful and the atmosphere friendly and inviting.
This was the first stop on our Oregon Coast road trip but we really hated to leave the Cannery Pier Hotel and the charming city of Astoria!

The hotel was a surprising combination of elegance and practicality - a ship-loving husband, detail-oriented mom, luxury-loving teenage daughter, and energetic dog all felt welcome. Exhausted after a seven-hour drive through blowing snow and icy winds, we found the gas fireplace already warming our room, doggy treats on a doggy cushion, and binoculars on the window sill - countless invitations to relax and take a look at where we were - smack in the middle of the mouth of the Columbia River. The hotel is built on an actual pier, so views of river life are everywhere. The planning of the hotel's rooms capitalizes on this; windows abound, and every room we saw had its own balcony over the river (the bathroom even had louvered shutters so views can be enjoyed from the clawfoot tub...). With the sauna and saltwater whirlpool across the hall, and complimentary wine (or juice) and hors d'oeuvres in the evening, we were loathe to venture back into the cold to explore more of Astoria (though we eventually did - the hotel is adjacent to the Riverfront Trail, a great walkway that stretches for miles along the Columbia). Excellent complimentary breakfast buffet - top quality everything. A beautiful place. Only downside was the smallish King room - we had to bring in a rollaway, which compromised the space.

We stayed for 2 nites in a suite on the first floor. Our balcony was right on the water with spectacular views. The rooms are large, modern, and clean. Not for the budget traveler but worth it for a splurge or special occasion.

Service is great including being chauffered in vintage cars to dinner. Astoria has some very good restaurants - all within a few minutes drive. Free continental breakfast and wine/cheese happy hour.

Much of what I was going to write has already been written here and I agree with just about all of it. We ran away to the Cannery Pier Hotel as an escape from the insanity of the Thanksgiving holiday. We were in room 408 which was selected by the very helpful staff as one that would be quiet and they were spot on. We had two very quiet nights of restful sleep with a great treat each morning as we woke up to the sunrise over the water just outside out window. The staff was super helpful and the room was in great shape. We liked our room but will try to get one of the end "suites" next time since they have more windows as shown on the hotel's website.

On Sunday morning, we woke up to watch a Honda cargo ship and another ship glide quietly past our windows. Very cool! The hotel has many photos and descriptions of the history of the location so that you actually learn something new during the stay.

The breakfast was a good attempt, much better than your average La Quinta or other type of breakfast, but it was pretty carb-heavy and the coffee was thin. It was fine for our 1st morning at the hotel but on our 2nd morning we went to a coffee shop in Astoria instead. The workout room was tiny but had the basics....we brought our workout bags but were too mellow to actually use them.

Definitely will stay at this hotel again.

We had a terrific 2 night stay here and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not inexpensive but they do offer occasional deals so if interested, get on their email list to be notified. There was something unique about everything; the incredible view from each room, the fact that you are practically IN the water -- well you are certainly ON it, the huge bathroom, the fireplace, the amazingly open and view-oriented lobby, the happy hour and breakfast. It was comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. Happy hour includes nice snacks, and breakfast is a big step beyond the usual
"continental" breakfast. Not in size but in quality. I could have spent the whole time in that wonderful lobby.
Check out the photos at their site, and believe it!

Seriously loved it!! Another totally successful pick based on Trip Advisor reviews! My girlfriend/significant-other and I took a jaunt through part of the Northwest earlier this month. One of the highlights! Very romantic, clean lobby and furnishings, spotless and well appointed room, friendly staff and amazing river views. You'll pay a bit extra--doesn't break the bank-- I suppose for the experience of watching these behemoth cargo ships and assorted fishing vessels lumber up (and down) the river just yards outside your window, but it was completely worth it--really. All the rooms face the river with a small balcony (with great views of the bridge as well). So basically lots of windows in the room for you "riverine voyeurs," but also nice shades to pull down if you want some privacy. I did request a room on the top floor based on some reviews that commented on footfall noise from above; I got the room and noise was never an issue. Free breakfast, free parking, free wi-fi, and free wine/cheese tasting top it off as an excellent value for a romantic get away. It did appear to the self-styled mechanic in me that the advertised classic cars (designed as complimentary shuttles to local eateries and downtown Astoria) looked pretty cool but probably needed some under-the-hood mechanical help. We did not use them, but one looked like it was down for maintenance and the other looked nice, but well, let's just say we chose to walk. :) Cool idea, but I suspect they're more trouble than they're worth. Further, would not necessarily recommend for families with small children or soul-less business people (if you have a soul, it's probably fine), but if you and your sweetie want a boutique-ish hotel stay with plenty of built-in, unique entertainment, dis is da place. Oh yeah, sorry if the review title is less than clear--it's kinda a weak play on words since the hotel is upriver from the Columbia River bar and I felt compelled to indulge my mildly (but not full) retarded side.

My wife Lucinda and I stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel when we stay over night ln Astoria. We enjoy the quiet, spacious rooms (which are spotless) the fireplace, comfortable beds and the large clawfoot tub which my wife loves. The view is unique, the hotel is built over the Columbia River on pilings, you can watch the large ships pass by so close one could almost hit them with a rock. Some of the amenities include a spa area with a large sauna (which I love), free use of the bikes to ride around Astoria, a great continental breakfast, wine and cheese served in the evening just to name a few. The Staff is great and very helpful, they will make reservations for dinner at any resturaunte you choose in Astoria and will even take you there and pick you up in one of the two antique town cars, which is all part of the great service offered. We recommend the Cannery Pier Hotel to everyone who whats a great place to stay and a wonderful experience too. Try it you'll love it. Jon & Lucinda
