“Excellent boutique hotel”
Reviewed June 29, 2009

A very well designed boutique hotel (every room has a good view) with great staff and well thought out room designs. We discovered the hotel by accident, spotting it from the road on the way to another hotel. Once we saw the other hotel we doubled back and checked out this hotel. It was well worth doubling back to. We especially enjoyed getting a ride in a vintage car to a restaurant of our choice.

Arriving at 11pm on a Tuesday night, the Cannery Pier Hotel was a beacon of beauty along the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon. Our arrival, although late in the evening, was greeted with a smile. The architecture and unique style of the hotel are beautiful, matched only by its great service and attention to detail by the staff. Having traveled many places around the world and visiting many hotels along the way, I can honestly say that our stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel was absolutely exceptional by all standards. The staff, particularly Lori and Lisa, made it their personal mission to accommodate any request we had, including researching hiking trails, making all of our dinner reservations, bringing us cookies and drinks...and they probably would have done our laundry had we asked. Most impressive was their response when I told them that my husband had not seen The Goonies, a great 1985 movie that was filmed in Astoria. Lori called every place in the county, drove around on her time off, and finally sent her son out on a mission to find the movie...which he did! We enjoyed watching the movie on the 2nd floor of the hotel where there is a DVD player and great, comfy chairs. As if that were not enough, Lori brought us some fresh baked cookies while we were watching the movie. There are many examples just like this, where Lori and Lisa (and the other staff) were graciously attentive, as if we were the only guests in the hotel. The hotel was full, but we never noticed because of the service of the staff.

Each morning, there is a great breakfast served in the lobby (waffles, hard boiled eggs, donuts, instant oatmeal, fruit salad, bagels, muffins, juice). There is coffee available 24 hours per day. At 5pm, wine, cheese, snacks are served followed by fresh baked cookies every evening. There is a newspaper at your door each morning.

Our favorite service at the hotel are the old, fancy cars that are available to take guests to and from their dinner reservations. Each night, we enjoyed being chauffeured to and from dinner by very personable drivers (Devin and David) who are eager to share their knowledge of things to do in Astoria...tip them well! Reserve your time in the morning to have access to the busiest hours in the evening.

We also enjoyed the use of the fitness facility and the laundry facility. Although we chose to run the waterfront and hike the mountain trails as recreation, there are guests who really enjoyed using the old-fashioned bikes located on the deck. Finally, our room was perfect. The comfortable bed, fire place, bath tub with views of the river, and very spacious sitting area all made our brief time in our room very pleasurable.

What was a 2 night stay, turned into 6 night stay. We loved Astoria and our experience at the Cannery Pier Hotel greatly contributed to our fabulous getaway. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Astoria. This hotel is above reproach and its staff goes above and beyond the call of duty to deliver exceptional service and a personal touch that is matched by no other travel experience I have had...it's simply spectacular! Lori, Lisa, Devin, and David are amazing ambassadors for the Cannery Pier Hotel and Astoria! Their professionalism and service-oriented demeanor is unique...they are a delight and certainly make the difference between a good and an exceptional experience! Bravo!

We spent one night here and really enjoyed the hotel. It was clean and well appointed. Our room overlooked the Columbia River and we loved watching the ships go by. It felt like we were on a house boat. You could sit in the tub, open the shutters and see the boats go by! The wine reception was well attended and the staff were very friendly and helpful. A unique feature was the ride to local restaurants in the old cars owned by the hotel. A phone call would bring them back to pick you up. And did I mention cookies? At night, the aroma of freshly baked cookies would waft through the lobby. The Cannery Pier was a lovely stop on our Oregon tour.

Trapped on the Oregon coast, with an intense raging storm that tore off half of the lobby roof and took out the power for over half a week, the Cannery Pier was our savior. Their kind service, home made food brought in by family at times, good company in the Lobby by fireplace and flashlight light... These people are the best.

Their hotel is positioned out on the old pilings of the Salmon Cannery of long ago, but rebuilt from the pilings up. All rooms have a view of the Columbia River Bar and the Megler bridge which crosses the 4.5 mile span of the mouth of the Columbia river and links Oregon to Washington. Not to mention the passing cruise ships that dock nearby.

Every room as far as I know has a thermal battery operated fireplace, so when the power goes out, you still have heat, and they had generator power to light the water heaters and keep us in hot coffee. Mr. Don West, the General Manager really is a kind and generously pleasant man to be around.

I am sure they have repaired what ever damage they had to their lobby since the Dec. 07 storm, and we will be back to stay with them again and again, as I return to the North Oregon Coast.

I rarely go to the same place twice because there are so many places to explore, however, I just left the Cannery Pier hotel for the second time. This small boutique hotel is a wonderful place that pays attention to detail. You can soak in a "feetie" bathtub and watch the boats go by out the window. They offer wine and cheese every night, fresh baked cookies before bed, and breakfast in the mornings. The hotel is situated at the end of a pier. They have bikes for guests to ride down the river walk. I highly recommend it!!

Our stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel was wonderful. We had the opportunity to experience many great places during our Oregon Coast getaway, and this was one of our favorites! The staff at the CPH went above and beyond to make our anniversary night special! We had complimentary champagne waiting in our room and rose petals (artificial but thoughtful) on the bed and bar. We were escorted to dinner in one of the vintage cars. When the staff made our dinner reservation, they even informed the resturant of our anniversary, where we were treated so well! The staff gave great recommendations for dinner and a night out on the town! It was a fantastic stay, wish we could have been there more than 1 night. The room was well decorated, comfortable, and large. The view, window seat, and balcony were so enjoyable for us. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and we will be back!!!

Very interestingly located out at the end of a Pier that provided dramatic views of the Columbia River emptying into the Pacific Ocean. We could wave at the crew of passing ocean liner ships. We wre given a comfortable king room for $180 night. Very modern furnishings, including a refrigerator and microwave complimented the room's unique angular design. Hotel offered a fair wine and cheese hour in the evening and a continental breakfast, both in the attractive lobby. Only negative was the fact that there was very limited counter space in bathroom and no closet, only a clothes cabinet.

Friendly staffing and a quiet night’s rest made this an enjoyable stay.
