My wife and I spent two weeks on the Oregon Coast in August 2014 with the last days in Astoria. The Cannery Pier was, by far, the nicest and most friendly hotel experience we had whilst in Oregon. The views of the Columbia River are beautiful and the staff was very helpful with suggestions for the area. If you go to Astoria, I would highly recommend this as a base.

We were making our way up the coast from Portland to Washington and stopped for a night in Astoria. The hotel was great! We had a corner room overlooking the water and got to watch the boats come and go. They had an amazing happy hour with snacks and drinks. The highlight (for my kids anyway) was being taken to dinner in the hotels Studabaker. Our room was really spacious, with a separate bedroom, which was great since we were traveling with our 2 kids. The staff was outstanding, and the views were awesome.

Fantastic, helpful check-in staff. Knowledgable and offered many suggestions for our day and dinner options.
The complimentary vintage cars is a wonderful idea to offer guests as a way of getting in to town due to the lack of hotel restaurant.
Views are spectacular and I loved the window seat and blanket to curl up and take in the view from our room.
Only constructive criticism I could offer would be to provide bottled water in the rooms.
Finally, thank you for our champagne and chocolates to celebrate our honeymoon, a very thoughtful gift.

A beautiful hotel in every way. The hotel, perched over the Columbia River, the building is plain on the outside but a real gem inside. Fantastic views and amazing and very comfortable entryway. Free wine and snacks in the evening and continental breakfast in the morning. Very gracious staff. Room was very comfortable. Top Notch!

..that hasn't already been said? This is truly a beautiful hotel with stunning views.
I am a very picky hotel room person, I can find something wrong with every room so to be fair... The only thing I found "wrong" with this one is housekeeping can be brushed up on a little..there were some old (blood?coffee?wine?) stains splattered on parts of the bathroom wall and our room door.
There are some ships that pass by, and on foggy days they will sound their horn. It woke me up ( my window was open and I'm a light sleeper) but I fell right back asleep.
Some noise from neighbors, but everything was quiet by around 10pm.
As one reviewer stated, there is no AC but there is a small built in fan (under the window seat) and keeping this on and the window open will keep the room cool.
No restaurant or room service. There is a restaurant right across the parking lot however, but call a few minutes ahead for reservations.
Borrow a bike from the hotel and ride downtown
I would not let any of these things deter you. Choose this hotel if you are in Astoria, there is literally nothing better.
I teared up when I left!

Room Tip: All rooms face the water. However there appears to be some corner rooms that may not have a full riv...

From the second we arrived we were made to feel special. The helpful staff offer such a high quality of service it is exceptional. This hotel has many positive features and a few little minor niggles. Overall it is a truly great place to stay!
Guests have access to bicycles to cycle around the river trail when ever you want. The hotel offers chauffeur driven Vintage cars to take you into the main town and back again in the evenings. The atmosphere is extremely relaxed and makes everybody feel at home. The king bed, deluxe bedrooms are very spacious and have a stunning view of the river. Very well appointed with high quality amenities. However, the wardrobe is way too small!
Breakfast is included and is adequate. The coffee is good! The service is very good.
Every evening from 5 until 6, there is complimentary cheese and wine. A really nice touch.
The quality of the furnishings throughout the hotel are exceptional and there are also Log feature fires in the lounge and bedrooms.
Now for the niggles:
There is no AC in the bedrooms but they will provide a fan if asked. In August, this was needed.
There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel. (This is why they provide the vintage cars to take you to town).
Despite these minor points, this is a fantastic, quirky hotel and well worth staying! We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay!

We spent 2 nights in room 106 and had the best time. The service was perfect, from booking to checkout. The continental breakfast was good, we loved the waffle maker, and thoroughly enjoyed the wine and cheese reception at night. The best part though was the view from the room. The hotel is out at the very end of the pier, so we would step out on our balcony to just take in the view of the bridge and the river. There was also a window seat with a cozy blanket to sit at in case it got a little chilly, which was a nice touch. I loved the fireplace too. Words cannot describe how much fun we had here. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We didn't experience a ton of noise, but if you don't want to hear the person above you, cho...
