“Astoria Hidden Treasures”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Another visit to the Cannery Pier Hotel resulted in new discoveries.

The hotel is FABULOUS ! Every room faces the water so you won't get stuck with a cheaper room with a view of the parking lot. Once in the room, comfort abounds.

The owner of this hotel thinks of everything and doesn't ding you for the little pleasures. The happy hour from 5-6 PM daily pours good wine and serves up smoked salmon nibbles, All free. Lot's of hotels give you a free paper on weekdays but this one gives you the Sunday paper at no charge.

Here's the new discovery.....when you go for a walk in downtown Astoria....don't just walk by the stores.....go in. The exterior of the Astoria shops is not what you normally see, although there a few nice buildings. Most of the signs on the outside of stores look handmade....because they are. If you just drive by you might sigh and say, "Another cool small town that's gone fallow." Not so....don't judge this book by it's cover. Explore, allow serendipity.

Go now....enjoy!

Room Tip: When you go out to dinner, get a ride in the hotel's old Cadillac. It's free and the driver...

I only stayed one night, wish my stay had been longer. The hotel itself was beautiful, Right on the river, I listened all night until I couldnt stay awake any longer. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful in all respects. I would recommend to any and all, I hope to stay longer on my next visit, it made my trip so much better in all respects.

Room Tip: If you have a little extra money, stay in the captains quarters on top of the hotel, my friend did a...

Clean, comfortable and cozy rooms overlooking the river. Great Restaurant next door. Service was exceptional and staff were friendly and helpful. Next to the 101 bridge. and walking access along the river. A nice place to get some R and R.

Terrific view, great reception and loved loved loved the free bikes. Did not care for the spa services but otherwise terrific hotel. The rooms were nicely appointed and very comfortable. We loved the owner talk about the development of the hotel.

This was our first stay at The Cannery Pier Hotel. We live in North Central Washington and I can't believe I haven't been here sooner. The hotel has an incredible view. You feel like you are actually in the water. The rooms all have fireplaces so if the weather isn't great turn on the fire, grab a book and just look out the window. The rooms were very clean and the staff was very nice and extremely helpful. My only caution is to be aware of late night people who check in... We had some noisy ones.
Otherwise we will be back to explore more beaches, stores, and restaurants or just RELAX.

Really close to five stars. Two things (read on) kept it from getting there.

Our view (from a pet-friendly King room) was stunning. We spent a lot of the three days just taking it in. Otters cavorting. Sea lions swimming by. Countless varieties of birds. And the ships... If you are a fan like me, the ship channel is close in so you get to see these behemoths of maritime commerce up close. The bed was comfy. Nice living area with couch and coffee table. Enjoyed the gas fireplace. Huge claw foot tub.

Wide variety of food for the free breakfast. The complimentary evening wine came with delicious lox and cheese and crackers. We went out for lunch each day, but stayed in for breakfast and "dinner" - quite a savings if you think about it. Staff was attentive and extremely pleasant.

We were really looking forward to the 24 hour spa facilities, but here was our first disappointment. The Jacuzzi was nice, though it could have been hotter. The Finnish sauna was a big disappointment. No where near hot enough, and there is a vent that can't be closed that blows cold air. Pretty bad to have to huddle around the heater to stay warm in a sauna! We asked the attendant who reassured us that it was at its highest setting.

The other (slight) disappointment was the quality of the furniture. The cabinetry for the TV, the closet and dresser, the wet bar housing the refrigerator, microwave, etc., were all something like worn out Ikea stuff. All functional, but at a place like CPH I would expect better.

Don't get me wrong - we plan to return to CPH. Overall we loved our stay. While not cheap, the winter rates are attractive.

We are really sorry that our sauna malfunction when you were here. We immediately repaired the sauna. In our 7 1/2 years of operation this is the one and only time our Finnish Sauna did not operate correctly. Thank you for letting us know!

This hotel has a view in every room! The hotel is well taken care of and they have thought of everything!

We enjoyed the free breakfast, happy hour (wine and cheese), vintage car ride into town for dinner, indoor jacuzzi and sauna, nightly fresh baked cookies, and the second floor history walk.

They even provided bath salts for the clawfoot tub (any you have a view of the river from the tub).

We had a wonderful experience and would highly suggest it for couples who want to reconnect.

Room Tip: Every room has a view and a patio! You can't have a bad room.
