“Lewis & Clark Slept Here!”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

We were lucky enough to not only visit on a sunny January day, but it was a federal holiday (MLK), so admission was free! The interpretive center is filled with interesting facts, and an abundance of quotes from L & C journals grace every display. Fort Clatsop itself was such a treat. It is amazing to think this historic journey culminated right at this spot. The fort is small, authentic and spare. We were amazed to have it completely to ourselves during out late afternoon visit. I can't believe I have lived 50+ years in the northwest, and just now finally got around to seeing this historic place. Definitely worth the time and miles to get there. We piggybacked it onto the end of a great weekend in Astoria, which was the perfect thing to cap a perfect 3 days.

“Wonderful appreciation for Lewis and Clark”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Lewis and Clark had a major impact on the development of Oregon and Washington areas. This is an excellent presentation of their endeavors to reach the coast following the river paths. Highly recommend it.

“Several Parks”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

There are several parks in this system, all interesting. Cape Disappointment was probably the most educational if you only have time for one.

“Scenic views combined with history”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

From downtown Astoria it is an easy half-hour drive over the spectacular Astoria-Megler Bridge to Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington, or head west from Astoria for the short drive to the Fort Clatsop Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. The visitor center at Cape Disappointment includes an exhibit tracing the entire Lewis and Clark expedition, which reached the Pacific at Cape Disappointment in 1805. There is a smaller exhibit at Fort Clatsop, in Oregon, where the explorers wintered over before their return journey in 1806. The Fort Clatsop exhibit features a replica of the fort itself, a fifty-foot square compound that housed 31 people for 106 days (it rained on 100 of those days).
