“Nice Architecture”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

It was nice to visit Flavel House. I really loved the architecture of the house. Before visiting the actual house, you can visit the museum shop that was actually the carriage house. Here you can see an introduction movie, buy gifts and also buy the tickets to visit the house. I recommend visiting the house, if you are in Astoria.

“Awesome!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

Make sure you watch the 12 minute movie at the Carriage House before going on the self guided tour. It really put a personal touch on this Victorian home. The volunteer in the house was fantastic, guiding us around and answering questions. As I viewed the family tree I asked if the great granddaughter who had donated the house was still alive. She is! And the volunteer not only shared many stories of her with us, she showed us a picture of the lovely woman taken just recently. We really enjoyed our visit, time well spent!

“Home of Astoria's Richest Man (circa 1880)”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

Nice house and interesting to get the history of George Flavel, who built a fortune in Astoria and drove much of the early development of the town. He married a fourteen year old girl who outlived him (no surprise there), inherited a handsome sum on his death and then traveled extensively around the world.

“A Step Back In Time”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

I thought I would kill some time and stumbled on the Flavel House. It was awesome to learn some of Astoria's history. The house is so gorgeous and I really liked that you could take your time and really take in everything.
The house wasn't crowded even on a busy weekend unlike some attractions which was nice.

“Lovely Victorian House”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

This began with a short movie which introduced you to the Flavel family and their roots. Afterwards, you took a self-guided tour of their home. There were placards of information posted in each room, so you could move at your own pace but also learn a lot about each family member and the home furnishings. It gave great insight into the late 19th century life for a wealthy family who also contributed a lot to their community. I enjoyed this very much.
