Worth the price to learn the history of Astoria and one of it's famous residents. Great gardens!

“Historic Living Beauty”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

This is really an incredible experience. An immense, old Victorian beauty. I toured the house with my daughter. It think I may have enjoyed it more than she as I pictured living in such a setting. All the furnishings and art were a treat to see. The docents friendly. Step back in time and visit this wonderful old home.

“Fascinating glimpse into the past!”
Reviewed March 3, 2012

This house is a real find if you like older homes with beautiful architecture, and like imagining what it would have been like to live in the 1880s. It has been nicely restored, and you can take yourself through the house -- although I recommend viewing the video they show in the Carriage House when you get your tickets. Being able to understand who Capt. Flavel was, and know a bit about his family really gives you insight into the house. And definitely stroll the grounds - there is a beautiful, huge, Sequoia tree, as well as an unusually twisted elm, as well.

Overall, a nice way to spend some time and learn about Astoria's history.

“Very nice historical tour...”
Reviewed March 3, 2012

I really enjoyed the tour of this house. It was so interesting to walk through the beautifully decorated rooms and see the history of home. It's a learning experience to see how people lived in that era. It was self-paced, so we got to enjoy seeing different rooms at our leisure. Well worth the time...

“Gorgeous House”
Reviewed January 28, 2012

Can you imagine living like the Flavel family? The historical society has arranged a great video with history of this fascinating, eccentric Astorian family. If you want a quick yet thorough overview of them, you definitely should watch this. You are then free to roam about the house and gardens - all are beautiful and grand, especially when you think about the time period in which they originated.
