The Crest Motel is a refreshing independently owned simple motel that a corporate franchise would have let fall to pieces decades ago. Very careful proactive maintenance allows guests spectacular views of the Columbia from modestly priced rooms. The rooms face away from the parking so the views are unobstructed.
The motel sits atop a grade on Highway 30 a few miles east of town so that you must travel by car rather than walk to venues in Astoria. This is the motels only negative. The rooms are roomy and basic, but since the views are the primary focus, it’s not a concern. Cleanliness isn’t 5-star but it seems that many guests may also engage in the fantastic outdoor activities in the area and possibly drag the outdoors back to their room as we did.
My only wish was that our second floor balcony was divided from the others so it would not ever be necessary to close off the fantastic view with drapes to have privacy. Maybe some fire code prevents that.
