“Best value in Astoria for a quality hotel.”
Reviewed September 14, 2013 via mobile

This hotel has great service, and a nice breakfast. The indoor pool and hot tub are clean. Rates are usually better than the other quality hotels in Astoria! We have stayed here on 2 separate occasions, and plan to stay here the next time we are in Astoria.

The rooms are large and clean. The room had a river view (albeit, through an industrial storage area) and no flaws. Service was prompt and friendly. The breakfast was all that could be expected; tasty (except for the scrambled eggs, which are never good in ANY hotel unless they are made to order) and warm. There were two wafflers and they were well-used. Also, yogurt, toast, juice, good coffee, fruit...couldn't have asked for more. One problem; the rate I was quoted on the phone for 2 queens was $128.00 plus tax but when I got there, the manager insisted that the rate was $135.00 plus tax. I suggest you get a "lock" on the rate that you are quoted here. Perhaps, ask for an email confirmation.

Room Tip: Might try the upper floors for a better river-viewing experience.

I was surprised at some of the negative reviews on this Hotel. I agree, the entrance is odd, and the view is not exactly "River View", and there is not a "boat junk yard"; it is a boat repair shop. We drove over for The Rod Run weekend and thought this Best Western was beautiful. The rooms are new, clean, and was very quiet. There were four floors and we stayed on the second floor, and did not hear anyone besides us or below us. The beds were Ok. It is pet friendly, they do charge $15.00 a day per dog (yikes), we brought two dogs, and there is a paved walking trail behind the hotel along the river, very accommodating for us. The free breakfast was your regular continental breakfast with eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal and pastries. Everything was well stocked and fresh. We had a nice relaxing stay, and would recommend this Hotel to anyone.

Well maintained and clean rooms. All rooms have river/bay views. Friendly and attentive staff. The continental breakfast was decent. Easy to get down town. Several great restaurants ranging from brewery to formal dining. I will stay here on my next trip to Astoria.

We should have checked tripadvisor before booking one night at this Best Western. It is located in an industrial area with vagrants sadly leaning against the buildings. Our first floor room had windows that overlooked a boat junk yard. The neighborhood was unsafe so we didn't go out after checking in. The clerk also mentioned that they have more rooms than parking spaces so latecomers are on their own to find a parking place in the neighborhood.

Room Tip: Some may over look the water but the neighborhood is still unsafe.

Dear Irishgirl1600,

Thank you for staying with us in Astoria. We are working on increasing our parking capacity this next spring to improve accessibility for our guests. I do want to assure you that the neighborhood is safe and we do not have issues with transient or "vagrant" population in our area.

Thank you for staying with us and we hope your trip went well.

A little difficult to find. "River view" which costs extra, is of a boat junkyard. Room appeared clean, but hallways were not, and the trash cans in the hallways were overflowing when we arrived around 6PM, and had still not been cleaned up when we checked out around 9AM the next morning. There was a coffee heating unit in the room, but no glass container to make the coffee in.

Dear DBP56,

Thank you for staying with us in Astoria and for posting a review about your time with us. I apologize that you had the experience concerning the common areas and the garbage. We have made some changes that permanently remedy this issue and make for a cleaner, more inviting hotel experience. We have converted our coffee makers over to the single-cup machines that brew directly into the cups provided. This has removed the issue of the old pots breaking as well increased overall cleanliness of the product.

I hope that you will give us another chance to provide you with an improved experience the next time you are in Astoria.

The hotel is on the water front alright. But its entrance is kind of awkward (by going through a U-Hall rental). The backside of the hotel looks over a "boat junkyard" to see the Columbia River.
We arrived on a Wednesday. The hotel seemed to be short of staff. We waited till 4:30 PM and the room was still not ready for us. A single young man was fanatically running the washer/dryer trying to get clean sheets to our room. There were others waiting in the lobby with similar situation. The rooms are on the small side among the chains. Everything is average. Nothing to write home about.
