As we were going over the bridge I looked up the history of the bridge and was amazed to learn that it is the longest truss bridge in the US, also that it had been closed in October 2012 due to a big wind storm. We also learned that it is going into a 5 year 50 mil renovation project.

This is a most impressive bridge and seeing it felt compelled to travel over it despite having no reason to do so. It is a little scary because it is quite narrow but rises very quickly to quite a height. Great view of the Columbia and the pacific right near where Lewis and Clark finished. Best of all its free! Public works ftw

Very interesting that it raises so close to shore instead of in the middle. Fun to drive over and I guess there must be a very deep channel just off shore.

the view from the bridge is breathtaking and when you consider the size of the undertaking, it is an architectual and engineering accomplishment that boggles the mind. Very photogenic as well!

You have to drive across this bridge. It connects Oregon and Washington by going over the Columbia River. It is low to the water on the Washington side and climbs very high on the Oregon side in Astoria.
