“Interesting ...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2010

This small Maritime Memorial is located next to the Holiday Inn Express, right on the edge of the river, nearly underneath the bridge. It is easy to reach by walking or biking along the river footpath.

This is a memorial not only to those who lost their lives at sea, but for anyone who loved the ocean, the bays and the river. The memorial plaques include commercial fishermen, bar pilots, deckhands, boat builders, cannery workers and many more. One plaque says simply "He loved Youngs Bay."

It is interesting to walk through and read the plaques. Some have names only, some have poems and other information. All have engraved pictures.

There is a concrete pier that leads to a stylized "arch" which looks out to the Columbia River bar. Old Glory flies over the memorial.
