Stunning views once you climb the 165 or so winding steps up to the top. You should be of at least average fitness to try this or you will be hurting!

Astoria has done a remarkable job restoring and maintaining the column. 164 steps up a circular staircase. No windows in the column. Good exercise. There are landings periodically so you can catch your breath if you need to.

Great outlook and a pretty place. Worth the climb, and a good place to get your bearings in the area but be prepared for the wind at the top.

I would recommend taking a picnic to the column and watching the sunset! Beautiful views of the coast!

The column is a work of art. It is located on the highest point in Astoria with 360 degree views of the bridge, Columbia River with ships moving cargo, nearby mountain range, valley rivers and streams coming into the Columbia. And, if you like the climb inside the column you can throw a small place and watch it maneuver on the way to the ground.
