I've sampled myriad Chinese restaurants in Oregon, but none has offered food as satisfying as the Golden Luck cafe in Astoria. Located on a side street off of Hwy 101 and across the street from the Pig n Pancake, this is not a fancy venue. The decor has little to recommend itself, either, with formica and steel furniture from another era. But the food is surprisingly good.
Never have I found a barbecued pork as succulent and flavorful as is offered here. The egg rolls have been prepared by someone who knows how to handle a deep fryer, crispy and flaky on the outside, crunchy on the inside. And the daily specials board offers several dinners using the freshest produce available. The hot and sour soup is packed with vegetables, and has just the right bite of heat without overwhelming the sinuses.
A special lunch menu is available during the week.
