This visit was our first. The is so much to see and read about. I had no idea of the history of Astoria. Reading about the graveyard of the see was interesting, but very sad. This museum is one if the best and you need time to really do it justice.

“Wonderful Maritime Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

When ever you are in Astoria it is a must to visit this museum... any and everything Maritime and it is truly a wonderful experience. Right on the river, so much history of the Columbia River and local area.
With the US Coast Guard station at the same location it is so much fun to listen to the rescue and try to think with the experience might be with the swells on the ocean 20+ feet high.

Please visit this gem, one of many in the wonderful town of Astoria Oregon.

“Very well done--enjoyable and educational”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

This is an excellent way to learn about many things maritime and the history of boating and Astoria, Oregon. There is a reduced fee for senior citizens and an additional discount for AAA members.

We spent well over an hour and a half indoors enjoying the exhibits. They are extremely well thought out and executed. Exhibits that demonstrate the role of the US Coast Guard and the heroism they exhibit on a regular basis connected with us both. Film of pilot boats and coast guard vessels was especially powerful as well.

After touring indoors, we spent some time on a vessel docked outside the museum as part of the admission. Very interesting although it was a bit claustrophobic. We marvel that sailors can live in such close quarters.

Bravo to the volunteers and designers of this museum. It is wonderful.

“We went twice”

Our whole family enjoyed the museum: my three year old, my twelve year old, me, and my husband. We bought a year pass and went twice during our vacation. It was totally worth it.

“awesome museum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

There is so much history here in this museum. It is truly a world class museum. Not many people know that the Columbia bar is one of the most dangerous in all the US. Coast Guard from all over the country is trained here due to the conditions on the Columbia bar. And the museum tells the story through out history. Great artifacts!
