What a shame-I have spent at least 100 nights in many Hampton sites in the Eastern Us in the past 12 months, and this hotel was definitely the worst I have ever stayed in. The halls were filthy-unvacuumed rugs, dirty ...huge fans blowing down the halls from both ends, moldy smelling-a humidifier in the room not turned on-not a word of explanation from the front desk regarding this. The building just plain felt dirty-rooms and linens felt damp-limited tv reception-pouring the next day, no umbrellas at front desk to assist guests to car-same staff on duty at 9 am as when I checked in the night before-clearly tired-just shrugged their shoulders when I voiced my displeasure

Let me start by apologizing for this lengthy "review". You may not care to read all the details, but PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU INTEND ON MAKING A RESERVATION AT THIS HAMPTON INN - 4690 Salisbury Rd, Jacksonville FL 32256 .

Your CONFIRMED online reservation with Hilton/Hampton Inn may not mean anything !

30 days ago I booked a room online, directly w/ Hampton, using my Hilton Honors member info. This was guaranteed with a credit card, and I was issued a Confirmation number. Two days ago I received a nice email from Hampton, verifying my upcoming stay..."we look forward to having you stay with us... from June 20 - June 30".
This evening, I arrive at the hotel front desk to check in, and ...."we don't have any rooms available, we're overbooked". WHAT ? OVERBOOKED ? Two days ago they were looking forward to my stay. How can my room not be available when I reserved it 30 days ago, guaranteed it with a credit card, and received a Confirmation of the reservation from Hampton ? As the non-concerned desk agents replied....." some of our guests decided to extend their stays. We reserved a room for you at the Howard Johnson’s, down the street."

Now, I've only been traveling and staying in hotels for 35+ years, so I may not know how all hotels operate, but I believe most honest and ethical hotels use a different policy. If your hotel guest is asking to extend their stay on June 20th, and you have someone who reserved that room 30 DAYS BEFORE, you inform the guest that the room has already been reserved....and you suggest that THEY go down the street to the Howard Johnson’s.

Nothing against Howard Johnson’s, it's the matter that it's not where I made my reservation. (....not to mention the HJ room is $63/nt vs. the $129 room at Hampton, and for $63 you get the room that smells like pee; stained bedding, and a not so nice area of the town. That would be room # 144 at Howard Johnson’s, where I now sit typing this).

Probably even more aggravating than the no-room situation, was the total lack of concern by the onsite desk staff. Wasting no more time with them, I had them contact their manager, Crystal. She was calling in from home...evidently no managers working onsite. "Nothing she could do....guests extended their stays, so no room". Offered nothing more than her desk clerks had. I asked her to have her manager call me; which she said she would do. After waiting another 25 minutes at the desk counter...no call, not even the 2 desk clerks...they were hiding out in the back offices. Had to call the front desk, from the front desk phone, and tell them to come out to the counter.

Had them call the General Manager, Carol. At least Carol sounded contrite about what she admits was their mistake. She explained that they had allowed guests to extend their stays...bumping the people with Confirmed reservations. She had no rooms, no way to make a room ready, nothing. Then she had to give me their only solution...they had reserved a room for me at Howard Johnson’s. After further discussion she ASSURED me that she would make a room available for me, at the Hampton, starting tomorrow night.

Now, I await the result of Carol's correction to their mistake. Will she be calling me tomorrow morning, as I requested, to confirm that my room is ready ? Tomorrow will tell if the Hampton Inn's "ASSURANCE" has more credibility than their "CONFIRMATION"

Note:
I believe, with this exception, that Hampton Inn's are staffed by caring professionals. Hampton's are an excellent value, and consistently good quality rooms and amenities.
I have stayed at many Hampton Inn's across the country, and never experienced this problem before.

We just spent two nights here and were very pleased. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and genuinely friendly. It is close to several shopping areas. I would definitely stay there again.

Our family stayed here during spring break. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The location is close to the city and it was easy to get to the beaches and St. Augustine.
The hotel is very clean, good breakfast choices and overall, a value for the money!

I most state that most of the cleaning personnal were very nice, all but one, My husband and I went back to our room, and one of the cleaning personnal come in with a very up setting attitude that she was cleaning this room. My husband and I were shocked. Plus the front desk got some of our other family reservation massed up which cause them to have to stay at a near by Hotel which after visting I found to be much nicer and with a Hotel Washer and Dyer, which this hotel does not have, they send customers clothes out to a cleaner at a very high cost to the customers. You would do better for the same price staying at the Hotel next door. Which we moved to later. And were very well taken care of.
