The New York strip was cooked to perfection, drinks were great and the balcony view could not be beat!

“Breakfast is Wonderful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

This restaurant is located inside the Crowne Plaza (Riverfront, Jacksonville). The breakfast buffet is just wonderful. Fresh fruit, eggs cooked to order (generous portions for two), freshly cooked waffles, juices and breads. Very good service. A nice cozy atmosphere - perfect to start the day! On the pricey side,

“Yuck!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2012

We ended up here because we were going to a show downtown and didn't know where else to go. What a mistake! We asked for a table with a view. What we got was a table next to a window that was smeared all over with a dirty rag so we could barely see the river. Gross.

The staff have absolutely no training. We had to repeat ourselves to our server every time we ordered something. It would go something like this... [me] "I would like the pesto sandwich" [her] "What would you like on your pizza." [me] "We'd like two Intuition Pale Ales." [her] "So, that's two Yuenglings?" It was like that the entire evening. We waited 10 minutes for the salad before she came back to ask (again) what type of dressing we ordered. Didn't she write that down?? Of course, the salad didn't show up until the meal was served.

The food was substandard. They overtoasted my chicken pesto sandwich so it was hard as a rock. The outside of the bun was burned black and I could barely bite into it. My husband's gumbo pasta was so salty, he couldn't finish it (and this is a man who is a proud member of the clean plate club!). When we had finished our meal the dirty plates sat there for over 15 minutes.

When the bill came - which we had to request multiple times - we presented a coupon from the Entertainment Book. They told us that they don't honor them because they are now the American GRILL, not the American Cafe. (The sign in front of the Jacksonville Landing still says American Cafe, and their address is on the coupon). It was only $5, and since we were so disappointed in the meal and service, you'd think the manager would have honored it. Too greedy, I guess.

On our way out we saw a restaurant called Fionn MacCool’s Irish Restaurant and Pub, which looked like they were a lot more fun and had better food. We'll definitely try that next time and be sure to avoid the American Cafe ... or Grill ... or whatever it is.

“I would give it a zero”

All I need to say is a mouse ran through while we were eating. Dirty. Poor service. Terrible management. Food was soggy and tasteless.

“always good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2012

Been numerous times when I lived in jax, took family there from overseas, everyone loved it, we always sat outside on the balcony over looking the river, the warm shrimp dip is always a good starter! Service good, always a fav.
