“Great concept, not so great food.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2008

The menu will make your mouth water with the different flavors and options. We ordered two appetizers which were pretty good. The tortilla (Duck broth base) soup and the lettuce wraps were flavorful and enjoyable. The entree was a different story. The fish was dry and a bit charred. For the price the food was not worth the visit. I hate to say it but I enjoyed a recent visit to PF Chang's much more, and at a better ticket price.

“Great Asian Fusion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2007

The décor here certainly is east meets west. Overall, it will remind you of many upscale American bistros, with its cream yellow walls, trendy lighting and art work-- but the details are Asian.
The appetizers are called Street Eats, in honor of the food vendors who line the streets in Asia and sell imaginative appetizers and delicious snacks. The Street Eats go well with one of the many wines offered or the specialty cocktails.
The whimsically named fried dragon whiskers are narrow strips or “whiskers” of zucchini fried in sesame flour and served with a side sauce of garlic chive ranch. If ever there was a way to get your kid to eat her veggies—the dragon whiskers are it!
If there’s one Street Eat you shouldn’t miss, it’s the crab cake. Blue Bamboo doesn’t skimp on the crab. Instead of looking for the blue crab amidst too many bread crumbs, I found myself happily looking for the breadcrumbs. Beautifully presented, this Street Eat is drizzled with sarachi oil (a lightly spicy Asian sauce), Asian chili sauce and a lemon grass sauce.
The dessert selections come under the heading of “Happy Endings.” The Thai Tea Crème Brulee certainly was a happy ending to my meal, the sweet spice of Thai tea mixed with the creamy goodness of a traditional Brulee.

“Not so great...sums up most restaurants in Jacksonville”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2007

Ordered the chicken red curry and my friend ordered the pad thai during September's "Thailand" month. It was mediocre and not tasty AT ALL. Very little flavor--extremely bland. I moved here from the west coast and have yet to be blown away by the food in Jacksonville. Since I don't eat at the big chain restaurants, I thought this place sounded good, based on all the reviews. However, I think I need to set my standards extremely low when dining in this city. If anyone can give a suggestion on a good meal, please email me.

“Great food for Jacksonville”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2007

My wife and I went to Blue Bamboo for Valentines Day and it was fantastic. The waiter was great and the food was fantastic. The chef and proprietor was very cordial and spoke with all patrons. The place is small so I would suggest reservations. It is moderately priced.

The location surprised me. I understand it is the location of a restaurant that was owned by the chef's family. However, it is not hard to imagine if Blue Bamboo were in San Marco, Riverside or the beaches it would be one of the top dining destinations in all of Jacksonville.
