“Pleasantly Surprised”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2014

While looking for something to do on a Saturday morning I came across this place which was listed on Jacksonville's Event webpage. The park itself is not very large but I was pleasantly surprised with the local history. The volunteers were nice and the displays in the visitor center, though small and quaint, were very nice. I especially enjoyed speaking with Larry T. who walked me through the history of the Maple Leaf, a Union vessel destroyed by a Confederate torpedo in April of 1864. It was truly wonderful to see the artifacts displayed so that all could enjoy the history - on piece at a time. I also took a walk through the grounds and around the boardwalk. Very nice.

“Nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014 via mobile

It's a nice little park and museum. In addition to the museum, there is a restored home from the late 1800's and about a mile down the road is a restored family store. Wonderful insight into life in old Florida.

Inside the attractions are varied and well done. Volunteers are friendly and well informed. Nice selection of books and other items of (area) interest available for purchase. Worth the visit.

“Great stop! ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2014 via mobile

This was a great little stop on our way into Jacksonville! Great way to stretch our legs a bit... Was sad that the museum wasn't open but it was my fault for not reading the website carefully enough. Didn't see a donation box, but would have gladly contributed after walking the grounds and enjoying this quaint park! Would be a great place for a picnic... If it hasn't been raining!

“Informative, friendly”

This is a great place for history on the mandarin area of Florida. Banjo player outside, welcomed in and offered a tour. Nice for a partial day of learning, the paths were neat and great to walk down
