Description: The Sandollar was originally built in 1954 by a gentleman who lived in Fort George Island. This small but capable restaurant was able to capitalize on the booming American shrimp market from Mayport across the river. The business thrived and created the tradition of serving fresh and local seafood at low costs. This was when Heckscher Drive still had bridges that were made of wood and moved with the tide. After a while, the area demanded a larger facility and in 1988, a new building was constructed by Dwayne Williams, who owned La Cruise Casino and Restaurant in Mayport. He kept the tradition of providing customers with fresh, quality seafood at a low price. Today, under that same direction from the original owner, we look forward to bringing back the same great seafood that The Sandollar brought in when it opened. We are proud to be serving our local community for over 15 years now and will continue to give back and assure our locals that the next decade will provide the same great service, incredible food, and innovation that we are known for.

“On the WATER with a LIVE band!”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Nothing fancy, but the food was great - the service was great AND there was outside seating and a LIVE band!
I wish we lived close by, because we would be regulars!
Hushpuppies and crab stuffed mushrooms - YUM!

“Very good seafood and the atmosphere is awesome.”
Reviewed July 3, 2013 via mobile

The restaurant sits on the St. John's river. While you eat, plenty of big ships come in and out usually.

The food is very good. We go for the Wednesday night AUCE seafood buffet. Plenty of choices: fried fish, scallops, shrimp; blackened fish ( tonight was redfish); clams and mussels in white wine sauce; a grouper dish.

The AUCE crab legs are really good. They cook them just enough to be easy to crack and eat without being mushy.

Their menu items are always good. Their non-fried seafood dishes are my favorite. Their fried seafood is good, but I like the sauces they prepare with the non fried dishes.

The drive down from Fernandina beach is always pretty.

In a nutshell, if you want good seafood, with great service and atmosphere, the Sandollar is the place to go.

“Much improved!”
Reviewed July 3, 2013 via mobile

Our family has been coming here during vacation for over 10 years. Before the fire the food had really gone down hill and so had the building. We visited once since the rebuild and while the building had improved the food was not really better, we weren't sure we even wanted to come but we love the view and ship watching! This visit WOW! MUCH Improved! We usually come for the Wednesday night buffet and this time they have added many new entrees and sides! Our Server, Ciaran, did a great job too! 2 thumbs up! Way to go! We will be back next time!

“A family run place that draws the locals”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

We were introduced to this restaurant by friends from Jacksonville. The clam chowder was excellent - we're from New England so we know our chowder and this was great! The fish was fresh and sweet, and we had a great table with a view of the St John river. We would definitely eat here again.

“Great Atmosphere, beautiful setting... But skip the Buffett.”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

Have wanted to try this place for years. Great location right on the water with deck seating. We sat outside right by the water and the day was beautiful. We ordered sodas and the lunch Buffett. My drink had several floating insects in it. I told the waiter and he said sorry an have me another. Everyone at the table checked their drinks and no bugs. I ended up drinking a bottled water.
The Buffett was mediocre at best. Overcooked and bland fried fish, popcorn shrimp, baked flavorless fish. Bbq ribs, chili, undercooked fried chicken smothered in gravy. A very limited selection salad bar an carrot cake or pudding for dessert. Some of the other diners were served from menu items and their dishes all LOOKED very tasty. The bugs in my fri k sort of killed it for me though.
