Description: The Sandollar was originally built in 1954 by a gentleman who lived in Fort George Island. This small but capable restaurant was able to capitalize on the booming American shrimp market from Mayport across the river. The business thrived and created the tradition of serving fresh and local seafood at low costs. This was when Heckscher Drive still had bridges that were made of wood and moved with the tide. After a while, the area demanded a larger facility and in 1988, a new building was constructed by Dwayne Williams, who owned La Cruise Casino and Restaurant in Mayport. He kept the tradition of providing customers with fresh, quality seafood at a low price. Today, under that same direction from the original owner, we look forward to bringing back the same great seafood that The Sandollar brought in when it opened. We are proud to be serving our local community for over 15 years now and will continue to give back and assure our locals that the next decade will provide the same great service, incredible food, and innovation that we are known for.

Have wanted to try this place for years. Great location right on the water with deck seating. We sat outside right by the water and the day was beautiful. We ordered sodas and the lunch Buffett. My drink had several floating insects in it. I told the waiter and he said sorry an have me another. Everyone at the table checked their drinks and no bugs. I ended up drinking a bottled water.
The Buffett was mediocre at best. Overcooked and bland fried fish, popcorn shrimp, baked flavorless fish. Bbq ribs, chili, undercooked fried chicken smothered in gravy. A very limited selection salad bar an carrot cake or pudding for dessert. Some of the other diners were served from menu items and their dishes all LOOKED very tasty. The bugs in my fri k sort of killed it for me though.

We tried the sampler dinner plate and everything was really good. The hushpuppies were delicious! Service was attentive and the view was beautiful!

We just had burgers and fries. Nothing spectacular but very good. We loved the atmosphere. The waiter brought us extra drinks and check without us even asking.

The food was mediocre. The ice in our drinks had a "fishy" odor. We Had the Calamari for an appetizer, it was okay. The batter/ flour lacked salt. We Also had the Cauliflower soup which we thought was pretty good. The Oysters on the 1/2 shell raw were washed after shucking so much that the oysters themselves were no longer salty or tasted like the ocean. I ended up tossing back 6 and throwing the others out. The blackened Mahi was very small, and coleslaw was just okay. The atmosphere was nice, along with the outside deck and seating.

So glad the Sandollar's back. We always eat on the outside patio/deck and it's been enlarged a bit. My husband and I both had the scallop dinner. It was excellent! Definitely recommend.
