“Not the Old Matthew's”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

For those of you who have not dined at Matthew's in the past, you will be thoroughly impressed with this restaurant. It has a great ambience and the interior is furnished beautifully not to mention the delicious, quality food. We have celebrated many occasions here in the past 15 years. For my birthday, we again dined here. On the menu were several pastas which were never offered in the past. In addition, there was seafood, steaks and other entrees. We enjoyed a buffalo mozzarella appetizer. It was presented beautifully and the flavor was outstanding. We chose seafood entrees-turbot and arctic char. Each was prepared perfectly and we ordered three vegetables a la carte-green beans, fingerling potatoes and brussel sprouts, We shared a bottle of albarino (white Spanish wine), coffees and cheesecake. The waiter provided excellent descriptions and assisted us with making our dinner selection. If you ever get the chance order the grand marnier souffle--it is the best I have ever had--anywhere. I am sure that the changes to the menu were required by the economy to appeal to more customers. There were many business dinners taking place the night we dined. It is a wonderful place to dine but we miss the specialties that were offered with the old Matthew's menu.

“Good...but not great this time”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

I have long considered Matthews the best in fine dining in the Jacksonville area, but my last trip there was the first time I have not been blown away. Maybe it was the large/loud business party that was seated next to us, but of the 7 times I've been to Matthews this was the first time me not my wife was wowed. There wasn't a chefs specially prepared appetizer on the house for the night not a palet cleanser like usual. The food was still good, just not great and on the same level that we have come to expect from Matthews.

“An Experience to Remember”
Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

My boyfriend and I went to Matthew's for his birthday and from beginning to end it was a simply wonderful experience! He got the lamb shanks with mushroom mascarpone risotto and I got the turbot with green beans. The food was full of flavor and every bite was worth savoring. Between the bread, entree, and our side dishes, we were completely full by the end. We also got the flourless chocolate torta for dessert and it came out beautifully decorated with a happy birthday message for him. We were waited on by Sarah W. and she exemplified the highest level of service. We never felt rushed and instead we felt we could sit back and really enjoy every single moment of the night. It was truly an experience to remember!

“Simply Outstanding”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

If you are looking for sophisticated cuisine in a trendy place, this restaurant is doubtless one of the best choices in JAX, not to say the best.
We were a party of 4 and each of us gave a 5 for our dinner.
We chose scallops ($11) as a starter. Fully flavored, very tasty. But don't expect to get half a dozen of them. At Matthew's, portions are small; better focus on the taste than quantity.
Entrées were Veal Scallopini ($26), and Skate Wing (fish, $25). Both were excellent.
It was a saturday night, very crowded as usual, and the only glitch was that our waiter seemed somewhat overwhelmed and messed up with our choices.
However that was quickly fixed.

“Matthew's never disappoints”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

We had an excellent evening, enjoying Matthew's new menu. Great food, a knowledgeable wait staff, lovely surroundings and a very good wine list, arranged conveniently by price.
