“A very odd place”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

The inside of this place is like stepping into 1980. I have a girlfriend who has an Improv troupe that plays here about once a month, and I would recommend seeing them. However, after seeing the inside of this place for the first time, I don't think I would want to do the Dinner Theatre that they offer.

“Fun Place to Go”
Reviewed February 14, 2012

The Alhambra is always a fun place to go! The plays are always good and include local as well as out of town actors. It's fun to see somebody you know performing. The food is okay - it's a buffet. The overall value (play plus dinner) is good.

“wonderful improvement”
Reviewed February 6, 2012

The shows are good qualifty. The food is a huge improvement over the previous, overrated food of Mathew medure. One show it is a plated meal and the next is usually a buffet. Nice variety. The service is excellent and the owner walks around and checks to see that everyone is happy. Have been going for 20 years and will continue to enjoy several shows per year.

“An Evening With Patsy Cline”
Reviewed January 20, 2012

This is the oldest place of its kind in Jacksonville. It’s been here about 47 years and is now under new management and has recently been remolded. I went there last year to see Gail Bliss in “An Evening With Patsy Cline”.

There are three levels with the most of the largest tables in the top back. We were only two people, but were seated with a party of 4 at a table for 6. You know that when you make reservations, but not really my preference. However, we got along well with the other people, even though we really had nothing at all in common. Even in the back, there is no bad seats in this small intimate type setting.

The evening begins with cocktails (if you drink) and they provide a buffet in an adjoining room. They tell each table when to go to the buffet and you go only once, so make sure you get everything you want the first time. It wasn’t much to talk about really, but for dinner and a show at about $45 each, it wasn’t bad. I understand it has greatly improved since the renovation, new owner and new chef.

The show was outstanding and Ms. Bliss sounded just like Patsy Cline. We didn’t know until it was time for Ms. Bliss to sing an encore when we were told one of her band members had died just the night before from a heart attack. They took up a collection for the family and gave away cassette tapes of Ms. Bliss singing Patsy Cline and her own material also. Every one went down to the stage to shake hands with the cast and to make donations. We all wondered how they performed such a great show in spite of this tragedy.

Later, Ms. Bliss was in the lobby meeting people as they left. I bought a T-shirt and a CD, both of which she autographed for me. It was a memorable evening.
