“Great place!”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

We arrived at the marina next door to the restaurant after a long trip on the boat. The dock master recommended that we walk to Marker 32. We sat at the bar for dinner, since we had no reservation. Summer, the bartender, was charming and efficient. The food was outstanding. I had a wonderful version of shrimp and grits. My wife had a salmon dish that she still raves about! Highly recommended!

“Best Spot in All of Jacksonville”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

Hands down this is the best place in all of Jacksonville. Very good fresh fish and shrimp. Never had a bad meal here. Go with the Catch of the day or the Local Catch and you will be happy!

“Loved It!”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Like its sister restaurant also in the Jacksonville area, North Beach Fish Camp, what makes this place so unusual is not only the creative cuisine but the esprit de corps of the employees. They all seem to like working there and with each other and it translates into a fun atmosphere and great customer service.

I started with a warm spinach salad that could have been my main course. They prepare it with a cheese topping that they put under the broiler and it has an entree's quantity of Canadian (?) bacon as well. Yum! For my main course I had a grouper special on a bed of spinach and a delicious bean and bacon (again) concoction that made for a unique and wonderful flavor combination.

You have a panoramic river harbor view out the windows. Reminded me a lot of some of the oceanfront restaurants on Cape Cod.

I sat at the bar for dinner and the bartender encouraged me to try their other restaurant which I did the next night and was not disappointed.

“Marker 32 A "real 'keeper'!"”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

There's a reason that Marker 32 is rated by TripAdvisor as the #7 (out of 1,093 - at this writing) restaurant in the Jacksonville area -- it's just "that good."

We had relatives visiting Northeast Florida, and met them for dinner at Marker 32 on Friday night (17 May 2013). Having good sense, we made reservations early in the week, which is almost a requirement for Friday-Sunday here. We were seated at a "window table," which had great views of the Inter-coastal Waterway.

Service was quick and responsive. As always, I had the Vietnamese-inspired Calamari appetizer (ginger, peanuts, cilantro and mint - spicy!), a others in our party ordered the daily "cold soup," a salad, and my brother-in-law also tried the calamari. He declared it the best calamari he'd ever had, and a great change from the rubbery hunks of fried dough accompanied by a "canned" marinara served by most.

Our entrees were great. I had the Southern Style fried shrimp, which came with a great pile of "shoelace" sized fried potatoes (flavored with fennel and sea salt) and the house slaw. Others in our party ordered the "seared catch," which was grouper served with a browned butter sauce over jasmine rice. Everyone agreed that it was great! The shrimp were obviously fresh -- and not "farm raised. One simply does not live in Northeast Florida and not know the difference between "fresh-caught" and "frozen off-the-farm" shrimp. The grouper was also fresh, not overcooked, and tasty.

Dessert. What can I say -- except that it was a perfect end to a perfect meal. We each ordered something different: the Key Lime and white chocolate crème brûlée , the New Orleans style beignets, the blueberry cheesecake, and the chocolate truffle and mousse torte. All were great, but we shared bites, and declared the winner to be (wait for it. . . .) the blueberry cheesecake! Not a slurry of canned blueberry sauce lobbed onto a slice of standard cheesecake, this one has fresh blueberries all through it. Absolutely delicious. This doesn't mean the other desserts weren't great in their own right, but the blueberry cheesecake stood head and shoulders above the rest.

I have some additional praise for the staff. They did not rush us through the meal (we had a 7:30 reservation) on a busy Friday night. The place was jam-packed, but their delivery timing was perfect, our water glasses were kept full, drink orders and re-orders were prompt, and, well, it was just a very pleasant evening -- exactly what "going out to dinner" with family or friends should be.

My sister-in-law and her husband were surprised by the prices, too. She thought them far too low for the quality of food, service and atmosphere (don't tell Marker 32 about this!). She's from Atlanta, and remarked that she's paid far more for far less at other so-called "destination" or "exceptional" restaurants. So have we -- which is why I'd rather drive 45 miles to Marker 32 than to "eat locally" in Saint Augustine.

As usual, we'll be back.

“Excellent seafood!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

We came for dinner on a Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy despite the torrential downpours that had been drenching Jacksonville for the past few days. Parking was tight (although that was probably due to the fact that the lot near the water was flooded!). We were promptly seated and the wait staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Nice views onto the water and a cozy atmosphere We really enjoyed the broiled oyster appetizer. Excellent with good-sized but tender oysters. We also had the calamari, it was tasty with an asian flair, but it was a pretty small portion compared to other local seafood restaurnts The grilled octopus and bean salad was excellent and comparable to similar salads we had at restaurants in Italy. Main courses we enjoyed were both the mayport shrimp and fried oysters (huge two-bites each huge....but really tender). All in all a great dining experience Only dish we did not care for was the Caesar salad, which had fennel in it. For whatever reason that didn't go over well with our taste as we were expecting the "standard" garlic, anchovy and parmesean mix. The server was nice enough to pull it off of the bill when we explained it was not to our taste. Kids meals were nice too with selections beyond the usual such as salmon. Be aware that the restaurant can be loud during peak hours, but we will be back!
