“pet friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

Traveling with pets is difficult at best. Red Roof Inns are better than most places that allow pets and don't charge for them. Rooms are nice, fairly clean. Locations of hotels are not always great. This one was okay, location well not the best part of town but okay. Room was as advertised and reasonable price. Will use again and recommend. One item of notice the toilet in 3 Red Roof Inns now have not functioned properly, should be checked. Staff was good, friendly and helpful.

I am on a very tight budget since my position in my school district was eliminated and I had to retire. I have to stay overnight in Jacksonville, Florida, twice every month. It can get very expensive.
I love Red Roof Inns. Some have been renovated; some have not. This Inn is rather old, but it's clean, the people who work there are kind, professional, and will do whatever they can to make you comfortable, and it's very affordable, especially if you reserve early through the website.
It is not hard to find as there is a huge Red Roof Inn sign visible from I-295. Get off at the Orange Park exit. Coming from the south it's a left turn onto Blanding and then the first right at the light. The road work must be completed as I was there August 24,2013, and didn't have a problem with it.
The area is just a mile from the Orange Park Mall. There are lots of restaurants in the area. The area is safe. As a single woman, I am comfortable there.

Room Tip: Sorry, there's no fitness center. I was aiming at rooms and my finger slipped. There's no w...

We stayed in room 126 on the end. It is a king and was comfortable. First time at this hotel, will use again. staff friendly. Room in decent condition, average size. One thing---no blow dryer. Basic amenities, but ok for price.

Where to start -- freeway roadwork makes it impossible to exit at the correct exit if you're coming from the north on the freeway. Expect a long detour. Reserved a non-smoking room room -- first room reeked of smoke. Got a replacement "non-smoking" room -- also reeked of smoke. Sprayed with the personal bottle of Febreze I carry with me.

Sink almost clogged, slow draining. Sheets had hairs and what appeared to be faded blood stains from previous occupants. Asked for extra towels, told the first two times that they had NO extra towels on premise, on third request they found some. Toilet and shower had mold, apparently from room not being rented for a while. Did I mention that the place was almost empty? Oh, and the wifi is dodgy if you rent one of the bigger king bed rooms in the second building that is kind of distant from the lobby, expect to go to the lobby to do any extended internet surfing.

On the plus side, while surfing in the lobby, observed someone bargain the clerk down from the advertised $55 rate to $45, so at least they are flexible on their pricing during this low season if you're assertive. And no bugs or security concerns -- not always a given in this price range.

The desk clerk was pleasant enough.

Not the worse place, the large king I got delivers a lot of room for the price, but maybe pay a bit more and go somewhere nicer, or ask for a discount.

After a long, 800 mile drive we were pleasantly surprised by the modern, well-kept property. With no reservation, check in was a breeze. Restaurants and other amenities a short walk nearby. We will definitely make this hotel a regular stop when we reach Florida several times a year!

Room Tip: We chose first floor- very convenient for our golden retriever travelers.

Me and my husband go out to Jacksonville once every month due to his drill visits, usually we stay on the base but this one weekend it was raining like crazy, usually we stay on the base but all the rooms and cabins were booked so we had to drive out to orange park, we came across the red roof inn after all the hassle w flooded highways and blocked off roads, when it came time to check out I had to wait an hour or more for my husband to return from drill and I waited in the lobby where I met Alex at the front desk waiting area, hes probably one of the most humble people on earth, he was so nice, didnt give myself or any of the guests a problem at all, even with my pushy extra checkout time request. he was so welcoming I felt I was with a friend rather then an employee, I noticed other people praising him with nothing but good compliments, bc of him I'd rather stay there then on the base nearby, if it were up to me I'd definetly give notice to him, some kind of promotion on reward is well deserved! My over all stay was good too, the rooms were very nice and updated and it's a great location!
