The food and atmosphere at Teds reminds me of the gathering of old friends sharing good times and great food every time I visit this eclectic eatery. Ted has a great talent of maximizing all the flovors of all the of the dishes he presents to his customers. A must visit if you are a local or a guest of our city.

Fried snapper sandwich is excellent. Well worth $11.00. Friendly, courteous. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Chowder Ted's is the epitome of local. Local characters. Local delicasies. Local ambience. Local management. Starting with a wonderful assortment of 'folk' gathered inside the unimposing structure with the delicious aromas pouring into the air, Ted's is a place prized by and shared almost begrudgingly by local people who don't let 'airs' or 'appearances' fool them. That includes "Ted's" lack of airs and quirky appearance. The food is all N'east Florida, which means its fresh and doesn't mind borrowing tastes, combinations, and ideas from other places. Of course the signature offering is the 'chowder' which is always consistent deliecious and concistently different. Great seafood without the pretentious concepts that go with this kind of quality. Ted's is a little hard to find, but that's a good thing because it gets really busy. But it is all about relaxing, having a cold one or three and waiting for what is well worth the wait. While you are drinking your beverage, drink in the setting and appreciate the fact that not everything in this world has to be gleemingly bright.
If you are ever in the Jacksonville area do yourself a favor, take a short trip out on Hecksher Drive and look for Chowder Ted's. Unless you are just generally a kind of snobby, you'll be glad you did!

Chowder Ted's is an excellent "hole in the wall " type place on Hecksher Drive. Scenic waterfront view, gravel parking lot, so small it's easy to miss. Service is family friendly but be prepared to wait because it's tiny - maybe 12 tables and a small bar. The food is outstanding and freshly prepared. Minorcan style chowder is SPICY but oh sooo good! It's full of chunks of fresh seafood, olives, onions and tomatoes in a spicy red broth and served out of handled pots which adds a charming, authentic touch. I had the fried grouper sandwich (it was the special of the day) - perfectly fried, not at all greasy on a fresh bun with lettuce and a beautiful slice of think tomato. Ted's "homemade" tartar sauce is also so tasty we asked for extra - were told they also sell it. It really added to the flavor of the fresh, was also served with the hot, fresh onion rings we ordered on the side. Chowder Ted's is closed Sunday - Monday but definitely a must try. I've been there several times and have never been disappointed! The only complaint I can think of is the old vinyl chairs should be replaced, the cushions are torn up and not very comfortable on bare legs as I was wearing shorts!

My daughter & I found Chowder Ted's today and liked it very much. My grilled fish fillet sandwich was delicious. The chowder is spicy and full of chunky vegetables: tomatoes, potatoes, green olives and carrots. T'was too spicy for our taste, I'm afraid. Good thing we ordered the wonderful onion rings... We loved the friendly atmosphere and will be back with our meat-eating family members. They'll have the burgers!
