Owner description: Since opening in August 1988, Blackhawk Museums has displayed classic automobiles and myriad exhibitions exemplifying art, technology and history. Local students, residents and international visitors enjoy educational presentations, cultural programs and volunteer opportunities. Since the beginning it has been home to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum with over 55 vintage, classic, rare and sports automobiles on display. These automobiles are regarded as works of art and range from the dawn of the motoring age through the 1960's. In 2015, a new exhibition, The Spirit of the Old West opened, telling the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life. Other exhibitions on display include the Wheelchair Foundation Gallery and an exhibition of Juke Boxes from the Golden Age and vintage oil pumps.

I'm not a car buff, but have been here many times...taking friends or attending affairs. The cars are amazing, gorgeous and full of history! Well worth an afternoon journey to enjoy!

“Auto Museum in Suburbia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is a very unlikely place for a high quality auto museum. But the founder of the museum is a local developer who made a fortune and has given back some of that fortune via the museum. Ken Behring has contributed some of his private auto collection, and has gotten some fellow collectors to periodically donate cars on a rotating basis. The collection is high quality, high value, and constantly changing. The building itself is impressive and available for rent to parties/groups! If you like old Bugattis, Rolls, Packards, Mercedes, Ferraris etc. this is worth a look. I would estimate that there are a minimum of 50 cars on view at any given time.

“Such timeless beauties”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

The cars can show you what we lack in society.. Elegance, pride,
craftmanship. Today it's more of a commodity because cars all look the same unless you go
over the 100,000 mark. Worth taking Grandp or Grandma for a lunch in Blackhawk for some tequila shots then go enter the museum. Grandma and Grandpa will remember the good old days...............
