Owner description: Since opening in August 1988, Blackhawk Museums has displayed classic automobiles and myriad exhibitions exemplifying art, technology and history. Local students, residents and international visitors enjoy educational presentations, cultural programs and volunteer opportunities. Since the beginning it has been home to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum with over 55 vintage, classic, rare and sports automobiles on display. These automobiles are regarded as works of art and range from the dawn of the motoring age through the 1960's. In 2015, a new exhibition, The Spirit of the Old West opened, telling the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life. Other exhibitions on display include the Wheelchair Foundation Gallery and an exhibition of Juke Boxes from the Golden Age and vintage oil pumps.

A wonderful collection of old cars. They have some of the most unique vehicles on display. Each car is magnificently maintained and are well described. The collection is rotated periodically and when we visited they had a large number of antique Ferraris on display. My husband is a big fan of cars and he was in heaven. I am not as passionate about them but still found the museum very interesting. They also have a nice collection of antique gas pumps and jukeboxes. It is well worth the drive from San Fran or Oakland.

Rare and exotic automobiles displayed with great artisticness. Always a pleasure to visit. They do rotate the collection so returning frequently is always a treat.

Beautiful autos in a classy setting. We always take anyone who loves old cars. And, lots of great eating places at Blackhawk Plaza.

I have been to the museum multiple times the parking is free and the price is cheap. You can spend hours watching every car and reading the information regarding the cars. I have as well gone to several functions for school auctions and retirement parties. What can I say but when you live in the suburbs you dont have much to do but this place is worth seeing more then once

Museum is ia little pricey for simply a car collection, but again, it's B L A C K H A W K and to be expected of this particular area in the East Bay. If you're a vintage car buff? You really want to see these stellar pieces of machinery...Very cool.
