We were visiting the FDR Home and Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, NY, and decided to try the Eveready Diner. It looked very interesting, and we usually enjoy the experience of eating at a diner, for it's nostalgic feeling. The Eveready is very nicely laid out and decorated in art deco style. There were 5 of us eating, and 3 of us had nice meals (sandwiches and onion rings). But 2 of us were very unhappy with our meals. One had a BLT, which came with literally a half slice of bacon (which was 90% fat) on the entire sandwich! The other ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, which came with a total of 1 slice of cheese on white bread that was so small it took only 2 bites to eat the entire thing! And what made matters worse was our waitress. When we complained about the lack of bacon, she insinuated that we may have eaten some first, and then called her over to complain! Like that was the crime we'd been planning all day! And about the grilled cheese, she just said the loaf of bread must have been small. In neither case did she apologize, and acted annoyed at having to fix the situation. Then, while others in our group were eating, she totally forgot about the BLT, and had to go back into the kitchen after we asked her a second time about it. All in all, we do not recommend this diner. There are a number of other good places to eat in this popular Hyde Park area.
