“Simply a lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2014

We loved our stay at the Journey Inn. Valerie made us feel very welcome in her lovely home. Her cooking is imaginative, tasty and very satisfying. Valerie also has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the local restaurants so, if you don’t have a reservation for the Culinary Institute, you can rely on Valerie to recommend a restaurant to suit your requirements. The genuine friendliness of Valerie and her dad creates a relaxed atmosphere and it transfers to her guests so that great conversations are engaged in, both in the lounge and over the breakfast table. The property also enjoys a lovely location, just across the road from the entrance to the Vanderbilt Estate. Thank you Tripadvisor contributors for recommending the Journey Inn.

What a lovely birthday present - to get your review! My home is your home and we love nothing more than to make folks happy with our breakfasts and our service. We are lucky to have such pleasant guests that it is easy to be happy, friendly, and relaxed. Thanks for mentioning the location - it is so nice to take a walk on our "extended property" at the Vanderbilt Estate. Thank you, thank you.

I read the reviews in trip advisor that rated this bed and breakfast as number one. I agree with the reviews. Good location across the street from the Vanderbilt mansion. Near the CIA and close to the airplane museum. The service was perfect. The breakfasts were fantastic. I love the oatmeal and french toast. I stayed in the second floor suite which is highly recommended.

Thank you so much for adding your comments to our other guest's thoughts. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. You mentioned my two favorite new recipes - the baked oatmeal and the french toast - thank you, I love them too! So happy you got to see the Rhinebeck Aerodrome - an amazing place to see old vintage planes and very unique, special place. Please see us again!

Awesome 2 noc. stay this month. Valerie and her family were very welcoming. Breakfasts were wonderful. Just filling enough for a day of exploring.2 lovely sitting rooms as well to sit and have tea/coffee in after a long day of siteseeing.

Inn is located right across from Vanderbilt Mansion that has wonderful grounds for walking. Several miles down the road is the FDR mansion and presidential library and 10 min away is Eleanor Roosevelt's house.

Rhinebeck which is about 15 min. up the road is a wonderful New England town w/old fashioned main street and numerous restaurants.

Will definitely consider returning for future siteseeing in the Hudson river valley area.

Room Tip: Several rooms do not have private baths.

And awesome having you both here! Thank you for letting folks know how convenient we are to so many great sites in the Hudson Valley and we are happy that you were able to experience them yourself. The wonderful town of Rhinebeck - just up the road - has so many great restaurant choices that anyone can find what they love. Please do come back - and see us in the Fall! We would love to see you again. Thank you so much. One small note: All our rooms have private baths. 2 baths are located in the hall, but they are private.

My husband and I had a delightful two-night stay at this wonderful inn in the perfect Hyde Park location, right across the street from the Vanderbilt Mansion and grounds where we took a long walk by the Hudson. The Journey Inn's warm, friendly owners, Valerie and Eric, welcomed us with tea and home-baked cookies in the cozy library sitting room adjoining the dining room. Our room, the upstairs Vanderbilt suite, was lovely and comfortable, including an extra front room with day bed. Beautifully decorated, clean and quiet, with an extremely comfortable queen bed and down pillows. We couldn't have asked for more.

Breakfasts were superb and different each day, beginning with different fresh fruits. Strawberry and mango compote, Baked challah French toast; roasted peaches with Greek yogurt, vegetable frittatas, corn bread. Plenty of delicious coffee and tea. We enjoyed meeting and comparing travel notes with the other guests--from Colorado, New Hampshire, Texas, and Florida.

There's SO much to see in this area, starting with the FDR Home and Presidential Library/Museum, and Valerie is very knowledgeable about all the sites. Eric had great dining recommendations (including 2Taste Wine & Food Bar a few minutes away, and Calico in nearby Rhinebeck). We wish we had been able to stay longer. We will definitely return to the Journey Inn!

Loved hosting you both! Eric and I so enjoy turning our guests on to the amazing restaurants in the area. With the Culinary Institute here, all the other restaurants need to keep up the high quality - and they do! We are a culinary mecca. As for our breakfasts - we do our best to maintain the quality visitors to this area expect - so thank you for noticing. And we do have such interesting guests from all over - so thank you for mentioning how nice it is to socialize at the Inn - it was a great group. Looking forward to your return!

We stayed here for two nights when in the area visiting the FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt museums.

The house is beautifully maintained, and our room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. The location is great - right off Route 9, across from the Vanderbilt Mansion and just out of "downtown" Hyde Park.

Valerie, the owner, was amazingly friendly and helpful. There were two different couples joining us for breakfast on the two days that we were there; and we all had great conversations about the area and the inn while we were eating some really scrumptious food - these were some of the best breakfasts I have had!

Valerie was really helpful with great recommendations for places to eat and things to see and do in the area.

We will be back.

Room Tip: We had booked the Roosevelt Room; but there was an opening so we got upgraded to the Vanderbuilt Sui...

Thank you so much for taking the time so many months later to review our Inn. You are so kind to offer such a lovely review. Like so many guests who travel in the "slow" season, we love to upgrade our guests to a better room when we can - and during December, it is often possible. So happy you loved our breakfasts - winter is pumpkin season at the Inn - and we love our pumpkin pancakes and waffles. Can't wait to have you back - maybe during peach season?! Thank you!

Stayed here with my boyfriend for a road trip through the HRV. Great location: not only close to the CIA where we did a tour and had dinner, but also right across from the Vanderbilt Mansion a short drive from the awesome FDR museum. Valerie and dad are so friendly, sweet, and wonderful hosts. Breakfast was amazing and so delicious- poached pear to start followed by a decadent coconut almond French toast! The room (Tuscany) was adorable, comfortable, and clean. Will definitely come back in the fall to seethe foliage and enjoy Valerie's hospitality!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. We are so glad that the coconut almond french toast was a hit - we gambled and tried it for the first time when you were here! We think it is a keeper. Our location is such an asset for our guests making it so easy to see the sights and even take an evening stroll or a morning run on the beautiful Vanderbilt ground. And yes, we agree that the FDR museum is awesome. You must come back in the Fall - the foliage is amazing, especially with that view of the Hudson river.
