“Journey Inn is a great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2011

Stayed with my sister for 2 nights while we were in the Hudson River Valley touring historic houses. Diane & Michele were great hostesses and their Inn is a testament to pride in ownership.
We stayed in the Vanderbilt suite which had a queen bed and a single sleigh bed in a adjoining space. It had a nice private bath. Beds were very comfy.
Breakfast was good and it was nice to converse over coffee with fellow guests.
Location is a great base for day travels to historic homes, wineries and the cute towns that dot the river.
Thanks Diane & Michele.

It is always fun when we have sisters traveling together( and brothers too). You filled your days exploring and your nights with dining, we hardly saw you. We look forward to seeing you again and as we said when you were leaving, there is so much more to see & do!

My husband and I shared our 29th wedding anniversary with Diane and Michele the weekend of Sept. 10 -11, 2011. What a fantastic place to stay. The rooms were beautiful and the atmosphere was quaint and quiet. We shared breakfast with Diane and Michele's family and they were the nicest people you could meet. The breakfast was superb and top notch cusine. It is in a perfect location to visit Vanderbilt Mansion and FDR's home and library. There are wineries in the area to visit and taste and a quick easy drive to Rhinebeck Aerodome to see the airshow. Lots of antique shops if you are interested and plenty of restaruants to choose from. Hudson Valley is truly beautiful and if you go be sure to walk on the pedestrian walkway over the Hudon River. Diane and Michele, thank you.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mombassa Room and it is a little close to a road but the beds are so comfortable I...

We were thrilled that you spent your very special anniversary with us @ Journey Inn. We also want to thank you for sharing our breakfast table with our “Southern family” who were our guests that weekend. They thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and our other guests. They were here a year ago & they commented both times on what interesting & friendly guests we have. We told them we believe we are the luckiest innkeepers because we always get the best guests!

We decided to base our Hudson River Valley trip in Hyde Park and found the Journey Inn through TripAdvisors and other travel guides. It was exactly as other travelers had described. The house is charming and very warm and welcoming and our room was comfortable with a good mattress and linens. The extra soft pillows in the closet were welcome. Our bath was very large for B&B standards. Diane and Michele, the owners, were very helpful in helping us prioritize our excursions and in suggesting restaurants. We underestimated the amount of time needed to see this area so we extended our stay one night. Our breakfasts were at 8:30 am at the dining table so we got to meet and chat with other guests from around the country. It was very interesting. Our hot breakfast was a bit different each morning with a sweet entree and usually a side of ham or sausage and a fruit first course. The clincher for my husband, though, were the homemade cookies left each afternoon for the guests. It was hard not to eat just one! At the end of the day a cup of coffee from their 1 cup coffee maker and these cookies took the edge off before dinner. Only suggestion would be to have a pen and notepad in the room and to offer more savory items for breakfast. We had such a nice stay that we would love to come back.

We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at Journey Inn Bed & Breakfast. The discussions around the breakfast table are generally a highlight for many of our guests. It is amazing how lively these conversations can be. We are thrilled that your husband so enjoyed the cookies. You could tell he looked forward to seeing which cookies we would put out each day.
We love your great suggestion for a pad & pen in the rooms. Thanks!

My Husband and I stayed here with my parents for the weekend. We wanted to stay close to the mansions and i found this Bed & Breakfast online. I was a bit nervouse because i never stayed here and no one i knew has stayed here either. BUT, i was most definately blown away! Its so quiet and nice here! It makes you feel like you are staying in an historical town. The owners are so generous, informative, and sweet. They cook breakfast every morning and it is DELICIOUS!!! You can smell it from your bedroom! Both of our rooms were very comfortable and loved the bathrooms! We had the Tuscany Room and my parents had the Vanderbilt Room.Yes, you can stay at a Holiday Inn and get granite floors, jacuzzi tub, etc. BUT, your coming to Hyde Park for this history, vineyards, experience, and the AMAZING FOOD! Only high maitenance people would need a bigger hotel like that with people who dont even give you information or more history on Hyde Park. Yes, there is not a TV in every room..But we loved not having it..otherwise, you would sit inside all day and do nothing. All of the guests sat at the table at 8:30 am eating breakfast talking about what we did and what we were going to do and also gave ideas on where to go to next. Loved waking u early to eat breakfast because you had the rest of the day to do whatever you want, instead of sleeping in! i would pay double the price to stay here again! Ive never slept so good in my life! The house is beautiful and ive never seen anything like it. These women are super women and very comical! We booked another weekend here in 2 months! Thank you Diane and Michele!!!!!!!! My parents and I are ranting and raving about your place & many people are very excited to call and book rooms! We will be back over and over again!

Room Tip: loved the tuscany room!

Wow, you have certainly raised the bar for us……we hope we do not disappoint you when you return or for any future guests.
We thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and your parents, you all were definitely on a sightseeing mission. It was fun watching and listening to you plan your time here.
We appreciate your thoughtful words, and as with any business one can not be all things to all people. We do try our best and are thrilled when it all comes together.
While we only have one room with a TV, you’d be surprised how many times guests will comment that it was the best night’s sleep they had in eons because there was no TV in their room. They come downstairs for breakfast with a twinkle in their eye and that just warms an innkeeper’s heart!
We are so looking forward to seeing you again in the fall. We are already planning our breakfasts for you!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Journey Inn. The sisters who own it were friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were delicious and abundant. The house is located conveniently (across from the Vanderbilt estate) and the rooms are lovely. The bathroom needs a serious update, but was certainly nothing worth complaining about.

Last year we stayed at a different B&B in Hyde Park (Inn the Woods) and this was much better, cleaner, prettier, better location, better food.)

We are very happy you so enjoyed your stay with us. It was our pleasure to welcome you into our home. Like you, many of our guests return again and again to Hyde Park and the Hudson Valley, there is just too much to see & do in one or two visits.
You are correct that some of our bathrooms are older, they are in great condition and guests love the 2 sinks and added counter space.
Thank you again for taking the time to write a review. We hope our paths will cross again whenever you visit Hyde Park.

We stayed here in the spring with one set of our parents and had a pleasant time. I'd like to give a higher rating, but overall our experience was a little mixed. Let's start with the positives.
-Very gracious and welcoming innkeepers
-The house is extremely clean, including bedrooms and bathrooms.
-Brownies/cookies available in the evenings with teas and coffee
-Free coupons for dessert for four at the CIA!
-Tasty breakfasts
And the negatives (in our opinion)...
-The house is a modern build and has little character. Of course, the decoration is nice, but the house is plain and modern builds mean more noise.
-I'm a light sleeper and road noise was a problem. The house is right off a busy road, and we heard traffic at all hours. Our parents, in a suite at the back, did not experience the same, but most of the rooms (save the two suites) face the road.
-Guests were respectful, but there was still a lot of noise in the halls. No one was being loud on purpose, there's just not much insulation around the doors and walls are kind of thin.
-Though the breakfasts were nice and well-presented, the men in our group felt underfed. They also serve only at one time in the morning, which was slightly inconvenient. Apparently, this system was requested by other guests, but one size doesn't fit all, and we were looking for more flexibility. We did know this before we checked in (which is also done with very limited times), so it's not like they weren't up front.
-The bed in our room (Mombasa) was extremely hard. Again, the bed in the suite was apparently better.
-Overall it just felt overpriced. This area is expensive to visit, but we didn't feel there was a ton of value for money here.
I'd like to give a better score based on cleanliness and the very well-meaning innkeepers, but for us, this was just ok. There were no big problems, but nothing amazing either.

We thank you for your thoughtful comments. We always welcome feedback from our guests as it is the only way we can keep improving upon the experience for everyone.
Thank you for noticing how clean everything is since our housekeepers take great pride in their work. We appreciate your kind words and we love hearing that you enjoyed the cookies and refreshments. Aren’t those brownie cookies the best?
While being across from The Vanderbilt Mansion has its advantages, we are recessed off the main road. We are a small town and honestly, noise does happen but it is usually quiet during the evening & night. However, we apologize that you were bothered and if only we had known, we would have furnished you with ear plugs or a white noise machine to cut down on the sound.
. Our home is a newer New England style Colonial home and it’s almost 50 years old. While it might not be grand like our neighbor’s historic home, we like to think that the warmth felt by our guests is what adds to its character, personality and charm.
. On to the subject of mattresses: This is a huge discussion topic amongst innkeepers; which is best...soft, hard, pillow top, down. All of our mattresses are the same and were purchased at the same time. Guests frequently comment on what a wonderful night’s sleep they had. We regret that was not your experience.
Now, about food—we are sorry that the men in your party felt underfed. Our lives pretty much revolve around food and we are disappointed that breakfast was not a high point for you.
Yes, we do one set time because this is what the majority of our guests have requested as it allows for lively and spirited table conversation.
We plate our fruit course, the main hot entree, meat, muffin/quick-bread, is self served. We try to alternate one day a sweet breakfast, the next day a savory one. We had hoped that the assortment of cereals and granola were in a convenient place where guests could help themselves. We’ll certainly re-examine that placement to be sure that everyone know that they are also available. We want our guests to leave happy, well fed and well rested.
If we may make one suggestion, wherever you might stay, please don’t ever hesitate during your stay, to make the innkeepers aware of any problem. We want you to be happy and we just can’t do it if we don’t know about it.
Thank you again for your comments and please know that we are taking them very seriously
With the city being only 2 hours away, we hope you will return to the Hudson Valley to explore all that this beautiful area has to offer.

Diane and Michele are superb innkeepers. They combine warmth and competence with a beautifully appointed and immaculate inn. The food is great and they go out of their way to make your stay perfect. They even advised us about where to go for cooking supplies! I would definitely stay there again.

Thank you so much for your lovely and thoughtful review. We so appreciate that you enjoyed your stay and the food. Can you tell we love making breakfast? Helping you spend your money in the Hudson Valley was purely our pleasure and as you discovered that is a great shop. We are looking forward to seeing you again.
