“Not fancy but good for a short stay”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

If you are in Hyde park to visit FDR's home or the Vanderbilt Mansion Historical site, this is a good place to stay; it's located between them, and convenient to both. It is also not far from the Culinary Institute of America.

I rate this inn "average" not because there is anything to be critical of; it's really a very nice place, but it is a motel, and not a modern one. It doesn't have the amenities that you would find in a Hampton Inn, for example. Hyde Park is rich in history, but not in hotel accomodations, probably because the tourist season is not long enough to support them.

Anyway, the Roosevelt Inn is clean, comfortable, recently updated, and reasonably priced. It does have a unique feature: the Coffee Shop. This is very much reminiscent of a small town coffee shop from the Fifties. However, it is unmanned. When you get your room key upon check-in, you also get a key to the Coffee Shop, and you can enter at any time to serve yourself coffee, tea, and hot chocolate (mix). In the morning you will find a continental breakfast laid out on the counter: doughnuts, bagels with spreads, little cereal boxes, milk, orange juice ( in a pitcher, not a machine) and fruit, e.g. bananas. And of course coffee, teabags, Swiss Miss and hot water. Free WiFi is available here and also in the rooms. There was a New York Times available in the Coffee Shop, but you don't have to read it. ;>)

All in all, it's fine for a short stay.

It seems this is a classic, retro motel that has been modernized. Very comfortable, basic and friendly. The breakfast bar (coffee room) is unique. The owners have done a nice job to resurrect the old time motel experience. Newly tiled bathroom, but no hair dryers. A great neighborhood restaurant is within walking distance and its a nice stroll.

Room Tip: Call early for a reservation if you're visiting sites in Hyde Park; it fills up fast.

We usually stay at much nicer places (resorts is my preference), but for a 1 night stay with very little time in the room this made sense. First the positives - it was very clean, the room had been recently updated with paint & curtains, the bath was recently remodeled, location was perfect, nice flat screen TV, sink/mirror in bath & alcove, table/chairs, enough plugs for my electronic devices and breakfast was basic but nicely laid out. A big plus was that the room had a nightlight, I don't understand why more places don't include this! On the less than positive side - room was very stark with only mirrors on the walls, 2nd floor rooms are walk up, some reviews mentioned how warm/ friendly the office staff were - not the case for me - I didn't really need anything - but she wasn't warm and inviting if I had. Glad we reserved one of the rooms with individual controlled A/C as it was the middle of a heat wave. For the price and what it is, very good seems fair.

Family stayed here en route to somewhere else. We decided to make a stop to explore the Roosevelt home, and I'm glad we did. I'm rating this "Very Good" because as far as motels go, it's very good. The room and bathroom were immaculate (we had the family suite to accommodate me, my wife, and my 2 teenage kids). The hotel breakfast room is one of those time-warp lunch counters that we enjoyed. If you must stay in Hyde Park, this is a place to do it. But, why would anyone stay in Hyde Park, which is no town at all, when the magnificent Rhinebeck is 10 minutes up the road. Had we done any amount of research prior to booking this on a whim when we decided to visit the FDR stuff, we'd have spent the night in that town and enjoyed ourselves much more. So, as far as this property goes, it's a fine, immaculate roadside motel that I'd avoid only because Hyde Park's attractions are better viewed after a night in Rhinebeck.

Room Tip: Family suite is large and very clean.

Thank you for your compliments on the motel. We hope you can spend more than one night on your next visit so you can see more of what Hyde Park has to offer.

Now, for everyone else reading this, your goals for a visit will determine your lodging. Comfort, friendliness, budget, many options-- if those are your parameters then you will love Hyde Park.

We ARE close to everything, Hyde Park has FOUR great historic sites, walking trails, zip line, river kayaking, family friendly restaurants & diner, the Culinary Institute of America and a really cool drive-in! If you are mainly interested in shopping and dining, yes, you might prefer Rhinebeck. But, I think travelers with varied interests would love Hyde Park as well. Plus-- we are between Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie so you can visit them without paying the higher lodging rates. You decide. We hope to see you soon!

We would stay two nights in the Hyde Park area in order to see the FDR and Vanderbuilt properties. We usually look for small inns and b&bs, but chose the Roosevelt because of Tripadvisor comments and its location. It was about one mile away from the FDR properties and the Vanderbuilt mansion is about the same distance the other way. The Roosevelt Inn was clean and the location was perfect. We drove past some of the larger, more modern big box motels/hotels and were happy with the Roosevelt Inn. It is located off the road in a lovely grove of trees and the staff was quite friendly and helpful. Breakfast in the inn's little diner in the morning was great. We also ate at the Culinary Institute as well as the local (and quite fabulous) diner just down the road from the inn. All in all a good choice.

We found this Inn to be not only charming, but the staff, most helpful in every way. With all the historical attractions in the area, the owners were most helpful with directions, what-not-to-miss suggestions, and much more.

The "coffee shop" was an excellent feature and, an excellent breakfast and way to start each day... a big 'plus".

Both bed and bath were clean and very comfortable ... we'd recommend to anyone coming to the Hudson River Valley area.

Room Tip: Ask forthe king bed rooms, upstairs ...

This 25 roomers B&B is really charming. What I like most is the freedom and space. Parking right in front of our room make luggages easy to move. Room and bathroom are clean. A separate coffee shop for countless round of coffee, tea, ice machine and water is available. Simple daily breakfast at the coffee shop make our day right. In the middle of the facade, There is a wooden bench under the tree which is our favorite spot to drink beer and have our snack while watching cars passing by. Owner Karen is very friendly and charming just like her B&B. We had a wonderful time.
