True to its name, Inn the Woods is nestled in a quiet woodsy area off Route 9 in Hyde Park, New York. This bed and breakfast owned by Valarie and Harry Losey is immaculately clean and well decorated. This cozy getaway feels as comfortable as your own home. There are several bedrooms to choose from. Ours was charming and very comfortable with a private bath. Upon arriving for breakfast, a crackling fire and an assortment of newspapers and magazines awaited us. Two inviting couches flanking the fire were the perfect spot to read the paper over a cup of coffee. The breakfast was a gourmet delight. Just about everything on the table--including the muffins, scones, waffles, and even the juices and syrups--was homemade and delicious. Harry and Valarie will give you just the amount of attention you desire. If you are low key, they will respect your privacy. On the other hand, if you want to talk, they are happy to socialize. Valarie is able to advise you on places to visit and where to eat. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable weekend away, you will not be disappointed at Inn the Woods.

Great bed and breakfast located in the woods but not too far off the beaten path. Beautiful views and comfortable accomidations hosted by Harrison and his bubbly wife Valarie. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast each day prepared by "chef in training" Harrison and loved his homemade jams, juices and other goodies.

My reason for being in Hyde Park was to take a class at The Culinary Institute. Inn the Woods provided the perfect end to a perfect day!
No more than five minutes from the CIA, the setting is idyllic--quiet and peaceful and provides a terrific night's sleep. The outdoor hot tub didn't hurt in adding to that night's sleep either---lovely and under the stars.
Harry is known for his breakfasts and I can see why. Everything from jam to yogurt to scones to the cheese for the omelet is made by Harry on site. And it is delicious--every single bite.
For someone who hadn't been back to school in an awfully long time and was pretty nervous, Inn the Woods was the perfect spot to be. It provided comfort, a lovely congenial breakfast and, for someone traveling alone, a safe and comforting spot to be!
Val and Harry love what they do--and it shows.

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend in the Hudson Valley. We'd found INN THE WOODS, a bed and breakfast located in Hyde Park, New York, through an Internet search. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and most definitely would stay there again.

INN THE WOODS, as its name implies, is set in a quiet wooded area outside the town of Hyde Park. We booked the Treetop Room, a very large and sunny space with contemporary design and furnishings. It was perfect for us, as we're not the frilly Victorian antiques-and-collectibles type. The breakfasts were fantastic, featuring hot entrees (waffles and omelets, on the two mornings we were there), local products, and my personal favorite, homemade yogurt.

Our hosts, Valarie and Harrison, were gracious and helpful. They knew instinctively, it seemed, when to offer assistance and when to let us be. We'll be back.

This was our 3rd trip to the Hyde Park area, and our choice of Inn the Woods made it the best! The Inn is located in a very private wooded area of Hyde Park, but is very near the Culinary Institute of America, which was one of our main destinations. Our room (the Cliffside Room) was spacious, private and nicely furnished. The bed was huge and the view outside our windows of rock cliffs and changing leaves on trees was beautiful. The bathroom is supplied with all the necessities like soap, shampoo, conditioner, extra towels, etc. Cable tv is a nice addition, and Val and Harry have provided lots of extra touches such as candles around the room, robes in the closet, etc.
Breakfasts are full and delicious with homemade breads, jams, and muffins, plus fresh fruits to start. We had crepes, omlettes, french toast and never went away hungry. Great coffee, too. Harry did some work at the CIA and it shows! Can't forget the fireplace at breakfast either! Valarie is great with tourist tips too, and we followed her suggestions of a river boat tour on the Hudson and visiting the Dia Beacon Art Gallery.
Valarie and Harry love their work and it shows. They were friendly, knowlegeable and humorous. We plan to spend time there again. The Tree Top Room is spectacular, with windows all around for a fantastic view of the landscape, and it has a private deck and even a private entrance. Next time it's that room for us! There is a hot tub too, for everyone's use. Two cats and a dog on premises were pretty much invisible and no problem. Stay there...even if you think B&B's aren't your thing--you'll have a much richer traveling experience!
