“Al Forno”

Too late for lunch, too early for dinner. Keep in mind these are students in training. Pizza and salads were good,, but we've had better. Desserts were standouts!

Good food. CIA students work hard to make this a good dining experience. Recently the menu choices have been smaller.

“Not as good as anticipated”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

First of all, the signage on the campus for parking and getting to the restaurants was unclear, resulting in 20 minutes of driving around, asking people where to find parking and the restaurant, at one point winding up in a construction site, with other cars which also appeared lost.

After finding the restaurant, we were seated right away. The waiter was acceptable. The first dish we had, gnocchi, was mediocre, as it was very grey, chewy and pasty. The salad was arugula with asparagus chopped up, and a whole egg. The risotto was brought to the table in a large bowl and placed on a metal holder elevating it over the table. It looked like very liquid oatmeal, and tasted very salty. The same type of asparagus appeared in the risotta as had been in the salad. The bread was tasteless, and there was an unidentifiable black object floating around in the olive oil. I showed this to the waiter, and althought they replaced my plate, the bottle of olive oil remains on the table, hopefully with no more surprises in it.

Overall, it was very amaturely prepared food. The presentation was pretty bad, and the taste marginally palatable. We will try another Culinary Institute of America restaurant sometime, but this one was completely over rated. They need lots more lessons.

“Excellent food experience”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

Traveling on business with some colleagues experienced in the area they decided to take me to this CIA restaurant staffed by students...it was a great experience from the greeting at the door, to the service to the farewell. I shared the baby octopus salad as the antipasti with one of my colleagues, and then we ordered our own primi and secondi courses and shared again...all good, accompanied by an Amarone and a Barolo. We finished off the dinner with the warm chocolate cake and the Tiramisu...For a group of students they offered better service than most high end restaurants I've attended - and the food was almost perfect. Kudos to them - I look forward to eating in their restaurants one day!

“Excellent Pizza”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

We ate lunch in the pizza section of the restaurant since there was a group eating in the regular restaurant. The pizza was delicious and the waitstaff was excellent. I love the students at the CIA. So professional and courteous.
